WARM GLASS GALLERY

  • "Twisted" by Timothy Swann

  • Top left: Detail

  • Bottom left: fused and slumped platter

  • "The plate is 16" in diameter by ~1.5 inches deep and is composed of BE glass with the exception of palladium foil and dichroic coating in some of the latticino. It is composed of black glass with iridizing on the back and a clear piece of glass under the latticino. In this case the iridizing is silver in color and covers the entire back of the plate. Between the layer of black (base) and the clear glass is a layer of palladium foil. The foil varies from one layer to three layers due to over lapping of the foil sheets. Directly on top of the clear is the latticino. I made the latticino by hand in about 60 hours using standard lamp working techniques with BE rods and sheet. The entire piece was put together and fused at one time. After fusing the piece was slumped into a 16" diameter mold."
