Bullseye Dense White

I recently attended a workshop with Bob Leatherbarrow, what a great class !!!!!!!!!!!
We had access to Bullseye Dense White powder in the class, but it is no longer
available...Since I am just starting to use Bullseye products I am wondering if
anyone has any idea why they stopped making Dense White in Frits and powder.

Also if anyone has some that they would like to find a new home for please PM me

Apparently they meant there was so many whites it wasn't necessary. They don't make sheets either.... you can special order, but then you have to buy a much larger quantity. I have written them complaining, but never received an answer. I love to play with reactions in whites and French Vanilla, and I am missing Dense White deeply. The new reacting cloud is not a substitute for me personally.

Personally, I can't stand Dense White, used a very early sheet of it for color tests before I knew how reactive it was and pretty much ruined a whole half-sheet of 3mm glass (although it was instructive to see just how nasty DW could turn a bunch of powders). Its color reaction is just too dead-looking for me--I prefer the selenium/copper/silver reactions. I'm not all that into the new reactive glasses either, although I've seen some really nice pieces made with them (and with DW).

Somebody told me that discontinuing it came from both low demand and some consistency issues, but that's not official and I certainly haven't had it verified by anybody at BE--it's just gossip.

In any case, if they're not making the sheet they prolly don't have anything to make frit and powder from. I do know that if you order sufficient quantity of sheet they'll sometimes do a special run--heard a lecture last week where someone had a custom-mixed color of avventurina made. You might call and ask what quantity you'd need to order to get what you want, and then put together a group buy or something...no idea if BE would go for it, but it's certainly worth a shot.

Powder is easy enough to ship - so try calling the major distributors- They probably still have some on the shelves.

I heard the the discontinuation had something to do with how it behaved at high temps.

No matter, bottom line is I also miss it terribly and have been unable to find it anywhere. New reactive glasses are interesting, but I still miss dense white

Thanks everyone, I have tried a number of places for the dense white and they are all out of it
I did contact Bullseye and they are considering making some... seems that there have been
a number of request. I understand that it can be really disappointing when you get the reaction when
you do not want the reaction. The new reactive cloud and the reactive ice will be available in Frits
and Powders in July...guess I should have taken chemistry....LOL

oh, dear, I just found this thread. I too am a fan of dense white, and the reaction with French Vanilla. I love the reactive ice but not the cloud. so I hope Bullseye will bring back the dense white. it's so yummy when it's sandblasted..rich.

What we miss about dense white i its reactive functions. I could use another white but it wouldn't react with vanilla like this: The gray lines are from the reaction.

Karl Heron uses reactive whites alot...I wonder if he knows about this one being phased out.

You can special order it, large quantities. I think if you order a whole case, they will make it for you.

Yeah, I was pretty sad when BE decided to discontinue dense white. The reaction with french vanilla creates such a lovely and subtle silouette. The powder was particularly nice to work with. An image of a recent roll-up, and accompanying detail shot, shows one way I've been using it. I am pretty frugal with using it now...






I hope that Bullseye reconsiders. I am afraid to ask how large an order of powder it would take to make them do a special run. Let's keep our fingers crossed.

Oh, well, heck. I'm beginning to think I should auction off my jar of dense white powder and the sheet glass to the highest bidder... Mary Kay, if you're watching this, how much needs to be ordered to justify a special run of powder/sheet/whatever in dense white?

We are getting a half case of Dense White in at Vitrum today or tomorrow. It is a from special prodution run and is in limited supply. We will have it in both Standard and in Curious. Want some?

As I mentioned in the above quote in the Striker Rant thread, we just nreceived a shipment of Dense White, in both Curious and Standard sheets. Bullseye was finally convinced to do a special production run of the color.

I think it would be much more difficult to convince them to make powder or frit, though.........................
