Re: Multiple Shelves

Im new to glass fusing, But I just ordered a new kiln last week. I went through a lot of the questions you are asking. I also have a little inside help. My brother is an HVAC tech and he is the go to guy with all heating and cooling questions. And a kiln is basically one big controlled heating eleme...

Re: Do I Need Lid Assist?

Hey I went through a similar debate when i ordered my skutt GM1018. I ordered it last week and it has not arrived yet. my other kiln is a small skutt. I had two issues with it (I did get it for free). I called skutt and the way they took care of it was perfect each time. They encouraged me to call a...

Looking for tips about projects using a recycled mirror

Hey I recently put in a new bathroom medicine cabinet and im wondering if there are any projects that i can do using the old glass mirror. Its about a 26" by 14" ill probably just build a frame out of some old wool molding and repurpose it that way. but maybe someone here knows a cool idea...

Re: Did this happen because i slumped to fast

that helped so much!!

In theory if i fired a square till the footprint changes just a little so the edges flow out, it could help prevent dog boning on molds that are prone to it, right?

Did this happen because i slumped to fast

I got a new mold and tried my normal slumping scheduled. After firing in the mold the edges pulled inward. Did this happen because i used a pretty fast ramp up speed to get to 1250F. I went about 400 degrees from 1050 to 1250. Im guessing a slower ramp up speed will allow the glass to sag at a more ...

what would happen if

what would happen if i put glass scraps on the kiln shelf and ran a firing schedule similar to a pot melt? My kiln is not deep enough to do a pot melt. What about using a dam? lets say i fired the kiln to 1600 degrees then to full fuse without using a damn. would the glass get all over the kiln shel...

Fusiing different coe glass in the same firing

Can I fire the two sets at the same time? im not mixing the 90-96 together im just going to fire the...

Re: ceramic and porcelain tiles as dams?

so what would you recommend for dams? i see a lot of different kinds from bricks to people cutting kiln shelves. Fiber board seems the cheapest option but i imagine its doesnt last and makes a mess. if im going to buy something im probably going to get another kiln shelf and cut it. seems cheaper th...

ceramic and porcelain tiles as dams?

I have a lot of ceramic and porcelain tiles laying around. can i use them as dams to dam glass to keep it square? would i take the glaze off or place it so the glaze side is on the outside? using fiber paper to cover the sides i assume. I have a lot of porcelain bowls and interesting plates also. If...

Got a kiln and havent stopped firing since! a few questions.

HELLO! Im so happy to be partaking in the world of glass. My mother owns a small beading company and iv always been fascinated with glass. While speaking with one of her costumers about the beauty of a glass pendant she told me she had a kiln that was only used once. She let me have it and all her g...
