Re: discovered the alrm feature...pushed stop

I have pushed the start/stop button by mistake more that once to change my temp., hold time, alarm and so on. I have in frustration had to then re-program from that point each time. I have a Sentury 3 key controller that in my opinion was poorly designed. They should have designed it to have a "...

Fusing 3 layers thin glass?

I want to use 3 layers of thin glass to make a pendant. I have a few questions. Will I get bubbles if they are all uncut pieces? The size would be about 1" x 1.75". Should they all be cut the same size or should the top piece be slightly bigger? What kind of firing schedule do I need? Do I...

Re: Dichroic (etched) against shelf

I'm thinking that by firing it dicro. side down the end result will look nicer. Sometimes mine has little splinters/spurs on it around the part I have etched with etching cream. Almost like the dicro. has lifted a bit. Perhaps I'm going too high in temp. I'm using COE 90 CBS coated dicro. I usually ...

Dichroic (etched) against shelf

Has anyone experimented with firing etched dichroic glass against the kiln shelf, and then refining the shape and flipping it over and firing again? This would be for jewelry pieces. I prefer the uncapped look of etched dichroic glass. I'm not experienced in this. Sometimes I get good results and ot...

Re: New

I too bought my first kiln with the idea in mind of doing ceramics at a later date. I started with Paragon Caldera. I now have a Paragon CS-19 too. After becoming addicted to glass, I haven't even thought of venturing into ceramics. I can tell you this…..I wouldn't use the same kiln for ceramics and...

Re: White - gray - pate de verre

Try using WHITE FRIT (200) instead of the Crystal white(209). In my experience the Crystal White (209) has a bit of translucency to it and a slight gray tinge in it to start with.

Re: 2nd firing...different result?

Thanks Cynthia. The cumulative factor makes sense and I thank you for pointing that out to me. It's amazing how much learning goes along with glass fusing. Looks like I learned two lessons from this project. First, don't just lay the wire under the base glass. Take the time to secure the wire in-bet...

2nd firing...different result?

I refired a sun catcher that I had made and the 2nd time around it took on a full fuse rather than a soft/contour fuse. My top temp. was the same. The only thing I changed was that I took it up a bit slower than the 1st time. I refired it because my wire did not adhere correctly. I fixed it and put ...

Re: dichroic glass having flecks come off in firing

You may be interested in watching this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NvQUpDon_po I just stumbled across it this morning myself. Apparently Dichro wants to separate from the glass between 900-1200°F. According to the video, a fast firing temp. between this temp. is needed. The video suggests t...
