Re: Devit on draped bowls

Jestersbaubles-- I spray Bullseye kiln wash when mold is about 500 degrees. I also put 1 sheet of shelf paper and run the kiln to 1000 before I take the vent out. I drape 2 ea 1/8 inch spectrum glass with elmer's glue to hold them together so they have to fuse tack together, but bubbles are not that...

Devit on draped bowls

I have draped some bowls on stainless steel molds. Some of the bowls have patches of devitrification. I tried to put homemade devitrification fluid on them and then fire polish them at 1115 for 10 minutes. The bowl slumped a little out of shape but the devit was still there. At 1115 I thought there ...

Re: drapeing 9in. single sheet over SS bowl

Thanks to all for advice. I now have 2 nice bowls, green iridescent and most of the iridescent is on the inside of the bowls and is very pretty. The SS mold seems to have stopped turning black so I am trying a third bowl with no shelf paper. Thanks again-Bill Harrell

Re: drapeing 9in. single sheet over SS bowl

With all of the good advice I received, I have made 2 bowls by drapeing. The glass is no longer breaking. I do have 2 small problems, the SS pot I am using causes black splotches on the glass and I can't remove them. For the second bowl I used a sheet of kiln shelf paper and reduced the SS to one sm...

Re: drapeing 9in. single sheet over SS bowl

I forgot to state that I had put a 1/32 fiber sheet on top of the SS because I thought the SS was heating up faster than the glass and causing a hotspot where the glass touched the SS. Thanks to all for the help. I will take out the kiln posts and shelves and ramp at 150 up to 1250, hold 30(when slu...

Re: wind chimes that don't chime, they clunk

I have a picture of the different sizes of glass that will chime and those that will not. I cannot post it here. If you want to see photo email wharrel@cox.net

Re: wind chimes that don't chime, they clunk

Thanks for your help. I filled my kiln with different sizes of 2 layer glass. Long and slender works whereas short and wide sorta clunks. I made some open rectangles that are wide but the actual sides of the rectangle are about 3/8 inch and they chime nicely. I am gonna slump over a long narrow base...

wind chimes that don't chime, they clunk

I am new to fusing and I have made some 2 layer chimes. Some chime (nice clear tone when struck) and some don't. Is there a set of rules for this or is there a fool proof way to make the chimes chime. Thanks
