Devit spray question, and wine bottle question

I tried flattening my first wine bottle. I made my own devit spray with 1 T Borax and 1 C distilled water. I was careful to decant it without disturbing any undissolved Borax. I sprayed the bottle down with devit solution, let it dry overnight, and fired. Question 1) why do I have spots on the bottl...

Pieces of kiln stuck in fused glass

A few small pieces of my kiln apparently fell onto my glass when I closed the lid prior to fusing. Any way to remove them from the fused glass?

Tack fusing frit balls

I want to tack fuse several dozen frit balls onto a blank in a random fashion. Do I need to secure each ball with glass tac (or elmers, etc) ? I don't want them to slide off the blank or slide into each other...can they do that???

Will do, thanks for the suggestion.

I had a thought... If I used too much glass tac in the flower's center, which is where the problems occurred, could that be the cause of bubbles?

Re: More help with frit casting mold, please :)

Whenever air is trapped either under glass or inside glass, and the glass gets hot and viscous enough to expand, the air will expand from the heat, and blow a bubble with the glass. Sometimes the bubbles break. Many pate de verre artists don't heat their glass so hot that it is viscous enough for t...

Re: More help with frit casting mold, please :)

The raised area in the brown looks like a bubble. What kind of firing are you using? let us know the ramp speeds, soaks etc. to see if we can help diagnose the issue. Yes, it is a crater on the top of the cast glass, and a hump on the back. I thought it was a bubble too, but I cast 5 flowers using ...

More help with frit casting mold, please :)

I used my first sunflower frit casting mold 4 times, had 4 beautiful flowers, then the mold cracked. I replaced it with the same mold, and the first flower I cast came out beautifully, but a small piece of mold chipped off when I removed the glass. I smoothed off the rough areas of the small depress...

Re: Small piece of frit casting mold chipped-can it be salva

Yes, you can definitely smooth it out. Remember, though, that you're working in negative space, so you're going to get a bumpout in the glass to match the hole. I'd try a firing with the chip as-is first, see if you like the result, and then potentially alter the mold with a fine diamond file or so...

Small piece of frit casting mold chipped-can it be salvaged?

Apparently I didn't get enough mr97 on my brand new flower frit casting mold, and when I removed the fused glass a piece of the mold chipped off. Is there any way to salvage the mold, such as trying to smooth it with fine grit sand paper?

Re: Why lines in one piece of fired glass but not the other?

When you fully fuse glass, one color sinks in to the surrounding color. It is possible that the colors in the sheet realigned themselves in a fuse firing. Streaky glasses have varying patterns, especially beneath the surface. Thanks, Bert. I have never had this happen before, so I'm glad to know it...

Yes, I did. There weren't any lines prior to firing. Thanks for your reply!

Why lines in one piece of fired glass but not the other?

The green glass in both of these fused blanks was cut from the same sheet and fired in the same load. Why did one end up with lines? I fused a total of 8 blanks from the same green sheet, and 3 have these lines. I think they look really cool, but I don't understand how they appeared. This is 96 glas...
