Bert--the recipe that Richard LaLonde uses in his class for his CMC formula is 4 parts boiling water to 1 part CMC. This gives a gluey consistency that is perfect for making frit outlines. For a lighter formula (like Klyr-fire) I'd try 5 or 6 parts boiling water to 1 part CMC.

I took a class last fall from Robyn Alexander in Berkeley to learn about working with PMC. It's so easy to use and is an excellent medium to combine with fused glass. I was able to make 4 silver pendants with glass cabachons from just one small package of PMC. You can also use PMC for making unique ...

Thanks, Barbara -- the subtle colors in "Reflections" is the result of blending several Bullseye and Uroboros neutrals....I was trying to get a natural look that captured the shadings vs. a stark color variance. Both "Reflections" and "Bob" are 7" x 9" and abo...

Thank you, Paul -- you are my hero! After I posted the pictures and saw that they didn't load, I went back to the archives and saw that Webshots won't allow sharing of pictures! I'll find a site that does so that I can do it right next time. Appreciate the rescue

Frit paintings

Here are some frit paintings I've recently completed. Would love to hear your comments and suggestions for displaying them. The smallest one is 3" x 5" and the largest is 9" x 12". This is my first attempt at posting a picture--hope it works! http://community.webshots.com/album/1...

studio remodel

I converted my detached 1-1/2 car garage into a glass studio last year. I installed a set of French doors on the side that faces my backyard, and added two skylights to the ceiling--then insulated and finished the walls. I put in a small window heat-pump unit that is both a heater and an air-conditi...

Recently my 21-year-old nephew was contacted by a man in Nigeria wanting 40 custom-made dog collars....I'm his "artist" on the collars and was fairly suspicious. I insisted on getting a deposit from the man before I'd start the artwork (which didn't make me very popular with my nephew) but...

Hi Penny, I live in Sacramento and have a business/artisan policy through Farmer's Insurance. It's in conjunction with my homeowner's policy and an umbrella policy and covers theft, injury to others, and a bunch of other stuff. Since I already had the homeowner's and umbrella policy in place, my bro...

I was at C R Loo last Saturday buying supplies....they were really busy and appeared to be short staffed--but I can assure you they are still there! Usually they are extremely prompt and wonderful to work with.

I'd opt for the Saturday afternoon and serve light munchies and decent wine.....I've done several home shows on Saturday and did very well. They started at 1:00 and ended at 4:00. In two weeks I'll be doing a show at a private home on a late Sunday afternoon. I have concerns with the day/time but wi...

Just a thought--what about including a "how to take care of..." paragraph on your hangtags to be given away with every bracelet sold? You might want to say something about how glass bracelets are for adornment purposes only, are subject to breakage, and wearers do so at their own risk.... ...

Once the glass strip has slumped over the bracelet mold, you carefully reach inside the kiln with your graphite tongs and tuck the end pieces under. IMPORTANT: Be sure the kiln is shut off before you reach in with the tongs, and wear protective eyewear and gloves. It's tricky at first, but once you ...

Class on making metal stands
