Over lapping stainless steel molds

I have two stainless steel weaving molds. The original is 7" x 16" that I purchased years ago from Mike Fraiser. When he stopped producing the molds, I took the mold to a metal manufacturing company and had a 15" x 15" mold made. I need a couple more inches of mold space to make ...

Brad is coming to Texas

I thought I would mention that Brad will be teaching the class shown below at SiNaCa in May. SiNaCa is a not for profit school of glass here in Fort Worth. It is May 9th and 10th. If interested....there are some B & B's in the area. Order tickets via Eventbrite: http://www.eventbrite.com/e/marbl...

Cold combing

I just tried cold combing for the first time. I think that this technique would be one that I could teach the school art teachers in my next class. I mixed powder frit, water, and aloe vera gel. My concern is drying time when they do this in the classroom. Some of the lines were pretty thick and too...

Re: Kiln wash floor of glass kiln?

I just taught a class where a students project slipped during firing and was too close to the edge of the shelf. If the shelf sides and kiln bottom had not been kiln washed, the glass would have stuck.

Re: Ceramic kilns for fusing glass in schools

Thank you for your reply. I had the teachers bring me photos of their kilns. Since they had no knowledge of kilns, they thought the kilns were only ceramic kilns. Turns out that the kilns controllers have cone fire AND ramp fire. They now know they can use them for glass and how to use the controlle...

Re: Ceramic kilns for fusing glass in schools

I thought that I would also mention that most of these teachers with ceramic kilns are also NEW teachers or with only a year or two experience in the classroom. (one was a photography major). So I'm trying to get them as much information as I can.

Ceramic kilns for fusing glass in schools

I'm teaching another Intro. To Glass Fusing class to FWISD Art Teachers. These are teachers who have never even cut glass. Half of the teachers in this class are elementary teachers who have ceramic kilns. Most of the teachers that I have taught in the past have new kilns that fire glass. This is th...

Re: Back Magic

I had cold worked a piece that needed a flat edge. The back magic took away the hazy look but was not glossy.

Re: Wave mold

Thank you all for your answers. I teach fusing at a not-for-profit glass school here in Fort Worth and can use their equipment......lap grinder, saw, wet belt sander.... So I will be cold working the piece.

Thanks again for your help,

Wave mold

I purchased a 15" x12" x 2.5" medium wave mold. I have a piece that has the rounded edges from a full fuse.

Will the curvature of the slump allow the piece to stand on edge or will I need to cold work the edges?

Anyone have experience with this type of mold?

Thank you,
Vernelle

I tried the silver and gold pens. The gold turned dark but the silver was okay. I took it to around 1500. Have you tried any other colors?

reading BE reactive chart

I was looking at Bullseye reactive glass chart. I'm not sure I'm reading it correctly.

Can you get reactions from any of the transparent glasses? Most of those listed say "opal".

Thanks,

Has anyone successfully used the Sharpie paint pens in the kiln? (not the permanent marker type.)

GlasTac not drying

Anyone else having problems with GlasTac not drying? In my class Tues. they used GlasTac to glue their pieces. Didn't work. I just got another bottle today from D & L. I put some on a piece of glass with a toothpick a very small amount. Its been over 30 minutes and it is still not dry. Anyone el...

Did you check the back of the glass before cutting? I noticed that some of the newer Spectrum colors have lines towards the edge of the glass and it doesn't fire away.

Thanks everyone for your replies. My class starts tomorrow BUT I have another one starting in Jan. (School district is having me teach groups of their art teachers fusing.) Float differences

Quick questions. I'm teaching a group of art teachers how to use their kilns and make project examples for their students. I'm using 4"x4" sq. of BE. The project I want them to do with fiber paper would really do better with a bigger size....but on a limited budget. I know many of you use ...

Re: Toyo TC-600 Oil Hand cutter clogged?

I never put oil IN the cutter because it clogs and many times leaks. I put a sponge with oil on it in a cup. Then I rub the cutter across the sponge. This oils it AND cleans out any little shards that might keep the wheel from turning smoothly.

Re: Good person to contact at Paragon

Arnold is great.

I had sent an e-mail with a question Tues. pm and got a really quick response from Laura Miller. Had another question along the line of the first question and she answered really quick. All answers between 8pm Tues. and 1 pm Wed.
