Frame Idea

Wanted to share a framing idea I had. Apologize for the picture quality. The wood is unfinished and looks pretty raw and there are finger prints all over the glass, but you'll get the general idea. "Miss Clementine" is 9.75w x 11"h. I solicited advice on best way to frame and someone ...

I just placed an order directly with BE because I couldn't find their new Opal Olive Green with any of my other suppliers. I mentioned that I wished BE made a "caramel" brown and Taylor said they do. It's just one of their special order colors. :!: Special order colors !!! "Ooohhh, I ...

Susan, I've used Klyr Fire to "seal" the edges on these types of cuts. That's helped, but I think the most important thing is to get them well cleaned.

Rhonda, If I read this correctly, all you want to achieve is a good texture for better tile adhesive, right. Probably already thought of this, but can you just sandblast the back to rough it up?

I haven't used lava cloth yet, so the help here is good info for the future.

What exactly are you trying to correct? Devit, rough texture, off center? It might help us determine best way to correct.

Thanks for the picts Steve. Interesting. The bottom right with superspray appears to have that yellow parchment that Barbara's talking about. Interesting too that the "no cap" has devit. hhmmm I was kinda concerned that sandblasting fr. van. would remove the creamy color. Good to know that...

I just got off the phone with BE and I believe I have "stumped the staff". They're going to do some brainstorming, but it may be next week before I get an answer. BE doesn't sell nor do they use Spray A. Things I've done - Wash glass with solution of ammonia/H20 (25/75), rinse thoroughly, ...

Hi Dottie, the ceiling in my shop is only 8' and my large kiln (24" sq. shelf) is only a few inches from the wall. I can comfortably stand in front of it and place my hands 8-9" above when it's up to full fuse temps. It's never been a problem, but it's well insulated. I work at a chemical ...

Spray A + Tack Fusing ?

I have 3 separate background pieces that have been fully fused. I'm planning on adding elements on top that will be taken to just tack/fire polish (in my larger 24" sq. shelf kiln, that's about 1450; 1525 is almost full fuse but with a slight contour and 1600 is fully fused). I know these temps...

Follow up - After New Orleans

For those of you who are following this thread, I packed up some of my things and took them to the New Orleans School of Glassworks. I spent some time with Andy Brott. He was very generous with both his time and advice. He’s a born teacher. What Andy said was that the glass market in the US is jus...

Playgounds / Paths Series ??

Ok, I'm putting this out here because I need your help. "Playgrounds" and "Paths" is a possible series I've been working on and I need feedback. Last week I took "Playgrounds" to a shop in Baton Rouge that looks and sells funky things. The owner was interested in lettin...

I have a small "Hotbox" kiln. The largest single pieces I've fired were about 2-3" square, 2 layers of 3mm. I crank that puppy on high. It reaches full fuse in about 35 minutes. Then I just shut it off and let it cool to room temps (about 2.5 hrs). Haven't had a break/shatter yet and ...

Just as an aside, I work for a chemical plant. We produce one product that is sold at one price to one market, but we sell the exact same product (NO additives) at a much higher price, but to a different market. We can do this legally because they're sold to different markets. Gambling on this logic...

If it's the "Information courtesy of Mary Kay Nichie", I have that, but it's incomplete. There's no date on it, so I don't know if it's the most recent. I'll contact BE tomorrow. Just hoping that a list had been published on the web somewhere. Still curious about Spectrum color reactivity....
