rough edges & needles after slumping - what am I doing wrong?

Hi, I've just completed my second ever slump (yay!). The first one was in a small shallow square mould and came out fine. For this second one I've used a shallower mould (http://www.warm-glass.co.uk/extra-small-square-slumper-with-flat-base-mould-9-x-9-x-35cm-p-2979.html?cPath=96_73) with blue trans...

Disposing of ground glass

Hi, I've just bought a diamond pad to grind some glass edges before fire polishing (and to learn how to use it - just bought Paul Tarlow's book to help, excellent book) but I was wondering what the best way of disposing the waste glass is. I thought I would do the grinding in water, let it settle th...

Tips on using Amour Etch for etching?

Hi, I've seen a few tutorials online about using Armour Etch etching cream for etching dichroic glass (for example Tanya Veit's one on Youtube). I haven't really tried dichroic glass yet but thought maybe I could get an effect with regular bullseye glass. So I marked off the area I wanted unetched (...

Oh yes good news! After what happened to Spectrum recently I was worried my new found glass hobby might soon come to an end. No so happy about the price hike though:( It's not a cheap hobby...

Re: Self doubt

Coming to this post a bit late lol, but Katie I am exactly the same. I think it's natural to have some elements of self doubt and critisicm when you take pride in what you do. I think it's about learning to manage that so it doesn't intrude so much that it stops you from doing anything at all. I wou...

Has anyone used UGC Accents with Bullseye?

I've been thinking about getting some UGC Accents in gold, bronze or platinum as I'd like some of these mettalic colours in my designs. But the supplier I can get them from doesn't state what glass COE they are compatible with (and haven't replied to my enquiry about it). I use Bullseye glass, so wa...

Re: Cooling small glass pieces - AFAP?

Thanks very much everyone. I'm a bit nervous to try skipping the steps 3&4 in case pieces crack - but will test it out sometime - you never know till you try:)

Cooling small glass pieces - AFAP?

I've been using the recommended schedule for firing Bullseye glass in a Paragon SC2 kiln (found on the warm glass site uk). This has been working very well for me (reduced the top temp slightly for squarer edges): 1. rate 400F/222C, temp 1250F/677C, hold 30min 2. 600F/333C, 1445F/785C , 10 3. 999F/9...

How best to cut 6mm glass?

I've been toying with the idea of getting a tile saw to cut up 6mm glass into strips - but I've read a couple of places elsewhere that you can cut 3-6mm glass with a normal hand held glass cutter. I have a Toyo pencil grip cutter but I haven't been able to break the glass. I had a 5cm square piece o...

Re: Question about tile cutting saws

Thanks very much for your help Stephen. Not sure I like the idea of getting doused as I was hoping to use it in my craft room:) Still, next step then is to find out the best type of blades to get. At least I know I can get a cutter like this:)

Question about tile cutting saws

Hello, I'm new to the forums. I've recently starting making fused glass and am loving it! What I would like to do soon is be able to make larger patterned squares and cut them down to smaller pieces. I've been trying to research the best tools for this, but can't really afford an expensive glass cut...
