Have you tried PVA craft glue? I learned that on this forum a couple of months ago and have been using it since. It is just a glue I get from the local craft shop and when dried properly before firing, doesn't show up at all.

Which grinder should I get?

Hi everyone I am looking for a grinder which I can use to smoothen the bits of glass before fusing and then to finish after fusing. I am only working with small bits of glass for jewellery pieces. I would also like to try stacking sheets of different colours to create layered glass stacks and then c...

Joan "After soaking at the appropriate temp, I crash cool the kiln to about 1050, and simply close the kiln and let it cool to room temp. I've been doing this for over five years, and have never had any problem with any of my pieces." Do you anneal your beads after this???? My first couple...

Sharon My kiln is set up in the lounge :( because of the electrical outlet required...... so I might skip that method until I can move all my stuff into a proper work area (that will be a next lifetime thing at this rate... ) The kiln I have is the small Sierra PMC kiln which I bought from Rio...

Sharon THAT's new to me !! :? ..... but then again - lots to learn still, only JUST started fusing......... Does that mean you have to spray the powder with a fine mist of water to keep it down? I read somewhere that kiln wash powder (hope I got that right) is also hazardous if airborne? :?: As for ...

Judy, Tim Thanks for the replies........... I use CBS on Moretti (am only using moretti for all my glass work) and I think you are right about my choice of colours....... I am very partial to the blues but they don't seem to perform as well during fusing as when I am making lampworked beads......

Hi Tim Sorry to have been so vague :( I have tried fusing dichroic on clear glass in the various ways : 1) under clear glass (dichroic facing on top and below) on top of a black piece - it was prettywishy washy. 2) I tried dichroic on black base fused on top of black without any clear on top - it lo...

While we're on the subject.... a dumb question...... :?

In your experience, which is the better way to fire dichroic glass? With the dichroic coating up or down?

I have tried both ways but don't see a difference....

Michelle I posted on this board not long ago about glues for fusing glass and have since been trying out a few....... So far I use a PVA glue for woodworking and another PVA craft glue. Both seem to work well, if I make sure the glue is totally dried clear before I fire the pieces there are no trace...

Brock Another question......... I only work with small pieces for jewellry.. when you say work it to 200 - 400.... I'm not sure if I understand........ I mean to cold work the edges of your pieces so that they are up to the finish of a 200 or 400 grit, or higher. The higher the grit number, the eas...

Brock Another question......... I only work with small pieces for jewellry.. when you say work it to 200 - 400.... I'm not sure if I understand........ Hi Brock Thanks - I thought that might have been the case but just wanted to be sure..... trying out things on my own is sometimes scary but being so far away from any sort of glassworking institutions I don't have much choice. Hi all I have been trialling small pieces of glass with wire, mainly fine silver wire 1.0mm diameter. I find that if you glue the silver wire on to the base piece first and then glue the top piece to the wire (after the wire is firmly attached to the bottom piece) and fuse, it stays firm in the piec...

How to fire polish in a kiln?

Hi everyone This might sound like a nerd of a question.......... I'm sorry if it seems dumb. I am new to fusing and am going about it by trial and error (lots of them) and get most of my information from the internet or books I have bought........ but though I have found lots of references to "...

How to have a smooth back after fusing?

I am fusing small pieces of glass on fibre paper in my kiln.

After fusing there are traces of the fibre paper on the back which I wash off and sand off but I can't seem to finish this bit off without the effect of an orange rind looking surface........... any clues?

:?

thanks
Bea
