A thank you and Float glass techniques

I returned from teaching a 6 day workshop in Corning last month. The Studio at Corning produced an hour long live stream video that shows a few of the numerous projects we did in class. It's now on YouTube. Thank you Bert, for your many years of sharing your tips on working with float glass. The tip...

Re: plaster silica

Speaking of old plaster, I have a sealed box of C & R Loo MM 522 from 17 years ago, that I never got around to using (or opening). I have no idea what the mold mix is but would like to use it...part of finding and clearing out obsolete stuff and starting fresh. What else to do while hibernating?...

Re: Light weight Kiln Shelf

I've used the high density vermiculite board in my GL 44 kiln for about 10 years. The board measures about 19 X 40", 1" thick, and kilnwashed. Hasn't warped yet. Originally sourced from Skamol (HD 60 as I recall) but now available from Bullseye. For smaller work, I elevate it on the sides ...

Re: Mold Mix 6

Thank You Leslie for the wonderfully presented video. Clear, excellent instructions. I want to mention that I took my rock solid sample and immersed it in water for a day and it became workable. Mixing with a hand mixer made it creamy again. I hope the fibers are still in good shape!

Re: irritating news

Welcome back, friend. Glad you';re on the mend! I'm in week 5 after hip replacement and doing well too. I finished and shipped out two commissions the day before surgery, and during recovery dreamed up all kinds of new pieces. Do report on your new works.

Re: Another...recent work

I do remember those days :-). It will be fun to get together. I'm slated to teach at Warren Nyggard's studio, Milkweed Arts. My "Corallite Creations" class is not advertised there yet, but we're planning for a 4 day class, March 15-18. Let me know if you'll be available for a visit during ...

Re: Another...recent work

Beautiful work! Its a trip down memory lane to see those maglesses. I have one of your postcards, Jim, plus your sweet magless. Your post card sits on my windowsill in the workshop, alongside the orange tree miniature. Can I come by and visit you in Phoenix next March? I'll be teaching my Corallite ...

Re: Two layer vase

Michele, how about one sheet most of the way, annealing and cooling, then adding the second sheet and slump again. there might be would be less chance or fewer places for layers to stick to each other.

Mold Mix 6

I have a couple unopened samples of Zircar's Mold Mix 6, and they are almost rock solid. Has anyone tried to reconstitute this material with a little water and perhaps a blender? According to Zircar, it might not be worth the effort. I want to paint some on a mold made from Zircar sheet material, fo...

Beautiful, Don.

I brought out my four treasures you made a few years ago, to show my grandchildren: polar bear, rabbits, chipmunk, and a big mouse? with along tail. The two and four-year-olds were captivated! Too precious to hang on the tree, we put them on a window sill.
Cheers!

Re: Slumping into the smaller deep bowl mold set

Babette, the website for the molds, descriptions, and suggested firing schedules is on the Creative Ceramics.com website. They list the molds under "new" and the three are called Bowl 2, step I, II, and III. Bowl 2 step 1 mold is similar to the regular ball molds that Bullseye stocks but a...

Slumping into the smaller deep bowl mold set

Does anyone have experience slumping in Creative Ceramic's smaller deep vessel set of three molds? Bullseye sells them on special order. There is an inner and outer wall on the second and third mold. Has anyone tried manipulating these in the kiln during the slump? Seems the design would insulate th...

Re: Stainless Steel for molds?

Bert, don't you mean that ss shrinks more than glass, thus the potential of a ss mold trapping the glass? I've not has a problem unless the ss mold is a full hemisphere.

Gorgeous, precious, and thoughtful books, especially the songbook with the birds on the front seeming to communicate. Kudos again, Bob.
