Thanks Avery, Bert and Mike(via Dani) for your responses.

Does anyone have an instance of Pebeo actually releasing from the surface over time? A local supplier maintains they have a regular customer who paints on dinnerware and glasses with it. It must be relatively durable.

Paint experiences

A current one-off project involves painting on a piece of float which is going to be glazed into a triple pane sealed unit. I'd prefer to go with a low fire enamel to avoid any deviation from perfectly flat in the piece, but the archives, and Brad in particular, are not very positive about the longev...

If I were you I'd be taking a long hard look at Ron Coleman's most recent thread in Photos and Stuff - "A Little Splash of Color" for the best mold making idea I've ever seen here on wgbb, and a nice piece of work.

Late 70's/early 80's Rick at Western Aluminum and Commercial Aluminim. Didn't do a huge amount of thick cutting. Enough to say I can do it, but we were hackers. We had to "trim" a dozen 1" entry doors one time - no pressure there. There used to be a distributor/supplier on the corner ...

Part of not wanting to cut thick sheet when it's "fresh off the truck and very cold out" is a handling concern Rick. Any condensation plus the use of suction cups AND large, heavy sheets of thick float has the potential of making a huge and dangerous mess. If you can get it to the cutting ...

Disks definitely from HIS, cerium you should be able to source from someone close. We usually hit up a place here that does a lot of bevelling of plate glass. They go through a lot of cerium and have no problem selling off 5 or 10 lbs whenever we ask. That much goes a long way with the synthetic fel...

OK well maybe not everything. I don't know of anyone who is fabricating lap wheels. Almost everybody out west here has built their own. I'm not advocating design theft by any means but if you have time, find a local machine shop and ask them how much. Go simple, trued 12" platform, belt d...

I was hoping Mr. Aurelius was lurking Tony so thanks for clarifying my own little web of misinformation, and not picky at all, facts are facts. The windmill I'm tilting against is the casual attitude of educational facilities towards safe studio practices. Have they no fear of repercussions?.......b...

My last word

"The felt doesn't seem to be particularily flamable"..........I guess it depends how particular you are. You are risking burns of the second degree - that means permanent scarring. How fast do you think you can get a moist, burning sleeve off if someone accidentally hits your arm with a to...

Thanks Terry.....the new material is special stuff. Barb is using a design that is intended for furnace glassmakers. The Ice-T tank top has the band of protection where our customers told us to put it, across the chest. The rest of the garment is cotton, that's all we need. Kiln and torch work requi...

Don't panic kiddo....all is not lost, hope the bottom shelf holds a pleasant suprise. Yes you can use your grinder on the shelf edge to clean off anything that stuck, use lots of water and go slow. Think of it as a demonstration of how much hotter it is at the top of your kiln. Allan (been there don...
