Re: New work

LOVE your color choices. I also agree the base could be a little larger, but I think it's great that you have a base attached. Is it attached through fusing or gluing?

Re: out of the norm and need firing schedule

It seems the suggestion I like best is from Brad Walker. However, what could I use to clean off the paper if I don't have a sand blaster? I have no idea why she fired directly on the paper, but I imagine that is part of her (instructor) mistake. She woke up in the middle of the night and realized sh...

Re: out of the norm and need firing schedule

but these clumps of fused frit powder are not connected to anything. If I soak and remove the paper, I'll have a pile of fused clumps. Guess I could arrange them myself on a piece of glass, though. Thank you for opening my eyes.

out of the norm and need firing schedule

I used to be a very active glass hobbyist, until my husband's motorcycle accident almost 12 yrs ago. Life changes on a dime! I am just now coming back to glass after an 11.5 yr hiatus due to our life changes. So, much of this seems new to me, after such a long break. I am in need of a firing schedul...

Cutter's Mate is worth its weight in gold. It decreases hand fatigue, and is SO MUCH easier on an arthritic hand. I have carpal tunnel, arthritis, and shoulder problems, and the CM has helped immensely. If your musculo-skeletal system is as annoying as mine is, put out the money for the CM. You won'...

I was at the Youghiogheny Art Glass retail store on Saturday (great place!) on my way to Pittsburgh for a play. I asked about their glass in the kiln, and was handed a hand-written paper that they're handing out w/ details. Here it is: HS or RG Glass - slumping @ 1100 to 1150 degrees. Stipple - bein...

Ok, maybe thta's it! This was a very shallow bisqueware mold, and I did fuse the glass myself previously. I don't know what kind of glass it is. However, I DID apply Borax to the top surface, and I THOUGHT I was extremely careful to get none on the back. I'd totally forgotten about that. I guess it ...

My highest temp was 1300. So, none of you think the problem was the fact that the kiln wash was applied a month before the firing?

Glass sticking to ceramic mold.

I was attempting to slump two pieces of previously-fused glass onto an oval shaped ceramic mold. When I opened my kiln the next morning, I saw that the glass is completely stuck onto the mold. I'd applied 4 layers of kiln wash to the mold, but it sat for about a month before I used it for fusing. Wo...

new digital controller

I just received my new digital controller from Paragon. I thought it was advertised as only having to plug my kiln in to it, but I've received a booklet w/ all sorts of wiring diagrams in it. Do I need to hire an electrician again to hook this up to my kiln?

hiding devit

I'm still a newbie to kiln work. Last evening I was fusing two pieces together prior to slumping them. When I opened the kiln this morning, the piece was a gorgeous oval, beautiful rounded sides, but with devit all over the top. (sigh...). I've seen solutions that can be applied to glass that result...

Please bear with me, as I'm a newbie to warm glass. Can't these enamels be painted on, in order to prevent the majority of the airborne particles from being breathed in and causing lung damage?
