pre-slump question?

I have a fused piece that I want to slump into a large square mold. The piece has pattern bars on the sides which spread at a bit in the fuse and now extends over the side os the mold by 1/8 of an inch. Should I cut this down, fire polish then slump? Will this 1/8 make a difference?
