Something else to consider might be something like this http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3808786655&category=64811&sspagename=rvi:1:1 or http://www.hisglassworks.com/pages/b2.html A lot of european beadworkers use wheels to grind facets. Also the edge of a "coaster...

You could use silicon carbide shelves; they are strong enough and their effect the heat transfer is negligable.

Are the cracks in all five of the surfaces that were in contact w/ paper? I would lift the mold off the floor with bricks or something just to get more even heat all around. Look at it w/ a polariscope .

Yeah, Charlie, that's what I read too. I was wondering if anyone had experienced it though... Client purchased color. The whole pallet of choices and, of course, she picks the hardest color. I am thinking about maybe bringing the billets to 1000 (in a porcelain cup) and then slamming them in a glory...

Gaffer 300 Opaline: Have I shot myself in the foot?

I am about to cast some lotus flowers with Gaffer 300 Opaline. I have billets. Am I only going to get an opal white out of it? Anyone with experience with this stuff? Here are some links from ocr: http://www.glasscolor.com/catalog/colors/displayPage2b.asp?prodNumber=G-300&prodTable=Colors_Gaffer...

There is one college w/ glass classes and The Glass Society of Ireland but I can't find it on the web. I found it about a month ago. Also one thing that I think would be interesting is http://www.crystallotus.co.uk/ my friend, alva, just took a class from him and said it was great. Plus, I suspect t...

Hey folks Bert, About the comment from Delores, " Charlie--- ludo is crushed up old fired plaster so that would be a 70% plaster to 30% silica ratio with might be too tough a mix for delicate pate de verre but it might be the holy grail for large cast pieces that weigh 40 plus pounds. I'm not s...

Also food grade spray silicon. whatever you chose, experiment w/ a smaller one to be sure that a) it works b) it doesn't atttack the latex or leave marks. I think any of those things will work because plaster doesn't really want to grab latex. I believe the release is just insurance for those tricky...

once.
Maybe if you made your piece w/ no undercuts, used a release like a light kilnwash swished inside, and fired absolutely as cold as you can you might get two. But I would have to see it to believe it. MM6 is used as a very thin shell. You know that, right?

You might want to google Gaffer colors. made in MiddleEarth and very consistant. One Line is for blowing, one is for Casting. I think they maintain very high quality. I would be interested in other people's responses to their casting colors, especially mixing colors.

Hey gatorgirl I was just razing you a bit. Having been around addicts in the past I know that there are the "never do what I am doing" junkies and the "Don't you want to try it?" junkies. I always thought the later were a bit sad. As if they felt stronger because they had weakene...

Have you used it on stones before? 8 hours seems short. Put in one color glass run 12 hours, put in another color, 12 more hours. After doing this every 12 hours for 48 hours you should have four colors in there. run 12 more hours and then take them out. This will give you a range to look at. There ...

Also try HIS glassworks http://www.hisglassworks.com/ , Bob stephens has very good customer service and he may have a source for smaller blades. Chipping or blow out will always be a problem. This is where what you want (the program) and reality (the capabilities of your kiln) collide. Similar things happen all the time, say between an architect and a contractor or an engineer and a mechanic... I don't see any side elements in the picture of Evenheat 14-6. Is it just the one in the top? ...
