I finish it with sanding sealer and then a couple of coats of polyurethane varnish covering it completely. I started with a block made up of 2x 12.5 inch squares a...

I think that this may solve your problem with plugs. When adding to or repairing porcelain crown and bridge work I make masks (plugs) to protect the bridge and then I can weld new or extra pieces to it without damaging the bridge The secret is to use a 50/50 mix of Plaster of Paris and fine pumice O...

Hi Dragon Glass slumping moulds are made here in South Africa. They were designed to have wall thicknesses of approx 5mm and also to have the bottom of the mould suspended off the shelf in the kiln. The best debubbleizer is washup liquid thinned down to water consistency or use a camelhair brush, wet it and wipe it across a bar of soap and paint it on to your wax model

calcium silicate boards

Hi all
I can source calcium silicate boards here in South Africa.
I would like to know if this product would be suitable for cutting drop rings and making moulds. It has a rating of 1000C and comes in sheets of 1.2 metres x 50cm Would I have to use kiln wash with this type of board?
Thanks

Hi Russ I don't see a problem with painting on glass if it gives the desired result. It's the end result that counts. I can't remember where I saw it but it was a sand carved picture of swans and there where gold tinted tips on the wings and the head of the swans Without the gold highlights it would...

Glass beads were actually developed for blasting dentures to get rid of plaster of paris which is used in molds to cure dentures. Dentures are made from acrylic and the glass beads are soft enough not to damage the acrylic teeth. If you need a sandblasting unit for small jobs such as blasting patter...
