Iowa resources & some kiln supply & ring sawn questions

After a 15 year hiatus, nest now empty, best in-home studio space ever, I'm looking forward to getting back to all the glass stuff I've spent fortunes to move around the country while it's gathered dust. A few questions in no particular order... 1. web resources - curious what are some folks favorit...

thanks, judy & tony.... the price is about 2/3 of the new cost, so i figure it ain't too bad a deal (& for once i'm thanking the IRS). good suggestion, tony, about asking the utility company. i have friends whose kilns are fired next to their parked cars, so i'm not terribly concerned, but d...

buying (slightly) used jen ken -- your $.02??

i'm wavering over buying a used 28" jen ken advertised on the board (w/ the RTC 1000 digital controller) for my 1st kiln, but my profound ignorance about kiln mechanics makes me leery of buying something used.... i was told it's only been fired up a couple of times, & the seller's willing t...

hi....can't remember if i saw the info posted here (or on forums for my day job), but can anyone tell me what companies will process credit cards and only charge a transaction fee? ....and not require investment in any equipment?

couldn't agree more, nita. that's why we so enjoy having our neighbors over to spend the first night of hanukah with us, & our friends save the last few ornaments for my daughter to hang..... ...my "msg" was more about my daughter's finely tuned & twisted sense of humor at the tend...

oh i don't know, jackie. it's probably the same bad karma that's inducing my 4 year old she-devil to sing jingle bells over & over & over & over & over, and REFUSE to sing any dreidel songs, because she knows how much the endless christmas carols grate on what's left of my frayed ner...

jackie, they're beautiful (but i tend to love all of your stuff -- the bright colors, shapes....). of course, my impatience w/ stupid shutterfly, could only see the 1st one bigger than an inch....! my burning (pun intended, of course) question: what are you using for the drip cups?! doesn't look lik...

i must've missed chunks of the discussion, so a couple of qns: ...1, was curious about the glueing; what product are you using? ....2, are y'all saying that you did get the candle cups at this number? & is the kind w/ the flat bases (so you'd have to sit them on a flat surface)? only one's i've ...

for molds, i've used 1/4" fiber stuff (paper? too flimsy to be a board, but don't know what it's called) that i can cut w/ scissors for my molds; doesn't last, but nice way to experiment. i double the layers it flattens a little, & single layer or even 1 1/2 layer yields a really shallow co...

that seemed obvious to me jackie, except that it doesn't happen w/ each/every piece, even when the elements are similar -- that is, i could have 2 pieces, each of similar size & w/ similar elements, & one gets the crud & one doesn't.... i had been watering it down, & got lazy. am now...
