This is going to be way too much fun. Kitty, Thanks for all your info. I have been gone so long, I didn't even catch the mall thing. As for bars.... well those in Portland last year can attest to the fact that it's better I stay away from them. I wouldn't know what I am looking for in a galle...

I really want to visit the type of galleries we would put our work in. I am not familliar with the smaller galleries. I have two to visit in Santa Monica and one for sure in Los Gatos (wherever that is). I haven't been out to the design center there, which my brother keeps saying I need to see. He t...

I grew up in the LA area and it used to rarely reach 100, but my brother said it was 110 the other day! Fortunately, they still cool down in the evening. We're at that round the clock 100+ now - ugh! Linda reminded me that the pagaent of the masters is out there, I've missed it so many times, can't ...

Visit to LA area
I'm going to spend the week of 7/26-8/4 in the Los Angeles area visiting galleries. (By myself, without kids, without husband, free to do what I want....oh, I'm rambling on aren't I? ) Anyone have suggestions of galleries not to miss? 8) Anyone in the area want to meet for lunch or dinner? :wi...

Artist Bio and Resume
I'm now working on contacting galleries. I have been getting good response. A number of them would like a bio and a resume. I have my bio done but I can't quite figure out the resume. I think of a resume like in the business sense. But as I search through artist's websites, I don't find that style o...

I think I got this info from the archive awhile back. Although it doesn't take into account actual firing time, it does cover wear and tear. The thread walked you through the figures very well. This is my format for figuring my 1414 costs. Skutt 1414 Kiln Firing Cost Kiln Specifications Kiln Volts A...

My 2 cents.. From what I know of the old masters, they studied with the masters of their time and then the skills they learned influenced their work. I don't recall a painter studying sculpting techniques, but if he wanted to paint a body, he studied with someone who was good at that technique in pa...

It is sure nice to know that a fire should not start. That has always been my main concern. I like the fact that my Skutt has a removable bottom, so that if I did have a meltdown, I wouldn't have to replace the whole kiln (at least I think so). Like Amy, I have a lot of long firings, sometimes 24 ho...

Okay, had an idea, maybe a benefit to being in this heat. I put the thermometer on my outside table. It goes as high as 120. After 15 min., it registered beyond the 120. Can I take my piece out at 150 and just stick it in the sun? But, I'm thinking it would end up hotter than 150. Maybe use a thermo...

Unfortuantely, I have to deliver tomorrow afternoon. It's been quite a week! I assume powder coating can't be done in a day and I'm not sure if the colors will look good. Leaning more towards the black by the minute! (As for the famous - I figure Geena Davis can play my movie part, Mel Gibson for Jo...

Colored Glass Stands ???
I am thinking of painting my stands different colors to match my glass.
Has anyone tried this? Is it a futile thought? Is black just best?
I don't really have a lot of time to mess up, so I'm thinking I should just stick with black and experiment later, but I just think it might look really good.

Well, it couldn't all be good. My relay switching is still having an effect. Not as bad as before but it slows everything down. The kiln is not between the computer and the house. Can I put something between the kiln and the computer so the relay switch doesn't affect it? A steel plate, or would tha...

Thanks for your input Phil. John thought it was the noise from the kiln. It's off right now 150, waiting for the steel to cool. It'll be interesting to see if there is a difference now. I can just tell the difference in typing! Hopefully this will be the end of my misery. Lunch on the 20th? :) Cindy
