You can use a flat lap and grind the blank and polish before you slump.

A lot of stained glass is susceptible to devit. You would have to sandblast and refire.

over two layers brings in the volume control issue. Some glass leaves ripples on full fuse. When l want a really flat surface, I fire face down and then flip over. Fire polish if you want it shiny. For the edges, you need to cold work if you want the edge even and not wavy.

Ive had the same thing happen Phil. It depends on the piece. If it is a large or nice art piece, I will redo it, and my family gets more gifts! If it is a production piece, I evaluate it on how minor it is, and if I am probably the only one to notice, if so, let it go. From what I have seen of your ...

I too am wondering who else got in. I know there are probably politics involved to some degree. There is everywhere. In my case however, I do not know anybody at Pilchuck, and this is my first application. Have heart. I hope that to some degree they read the application and look at the slides to get...

Oh alright. Saturday was pretty amazing as I received notification from Pilchuck that I was accepted into Klaus Moje's class in July and August. I don't think that it has really sunk in yet. My head is spinning. I know from what you and Avery have told me that it will be a wonderful experience. This...

Thanks. I like the design of the toyo, and prefer carbide over steel. It is just nice to find out if anybody really does not like one. The toyo is more money, but looks worth it. I am not sure about the fletcher. It is less, but I don't always like to go for the lowest price. The cutters mate seems ...

large circle cutter

Hi all. I wanted to know if anyone had experience with the larger circle cutters? I need to cut circles 23" and up. I have found several:

Fletcher circlemate II
Toyo circle supercutter
Cutters mate
Silberschnitt

What works, or doesn't?

Thanks,

Dick

Back magic says it matures at 1000 but it is closer to 1200. All the sprays seem to require a higher fire polish. On bad spots I usually just sandblast and fire to 1300.

Was it the spectrum 96, or just spectrum? Sometimes the non tested do weird things. I have used 96 black, red, and white in lots of combinations, and never had it change. Could you have had a contaminant on the shelf or in the kiln? Silver stain or other products could have an effect.

I bought a small fountain pump, put it in a tupperware container below the grinder, and plastic tubing to drip on the sponge. another tube goes into the drain at the bottom of the grinder. Then I just change the water often. I added a little valve to control how much water flows.

Thanks for the replies. I understand both sides. Basically, if they are not insured you have to be willing to write it off. I know most of the time this will not be an issue, but want to be upfront. I am looking into insurance just to price it. I have heard horror stories of not only work being brok...

No, a quick peek is fine. The only danger is opening too much or too long as it cools and you risk thermal shocking the glass.
