Re: Removing glass plug from diamond drill bit
That's too bad Bert, I've modified a regular drill press to have a MUCH bigger throat. I don't usually need to drill anything more than 3-4 inches from the edge but I can drill 12+" Not as useful as a tripod drill but they run $700+ Rick I bought some of these once, and the shafts are so short ...

Re: Removing glass plug from diamond drill bit
the biggest ones I've bought are 60,80,100 and 120 mm from them.
These bits are not the absolute best quality but they are all worth the money.
They are 1/10 or less the prices of others out there.

Order them from these guys. At 35 cents each they are virtually disposable.

Re: Sand blaster
Moisture and humidity are your enemy. If the media gets moist it doesn't flow properly. I'm sure you could make it work though, putting the media in the oven or kiln and heat it does a great job of drying it out. It would need to be kept out of direct moisture like rain but the humidity could be wor...

Re: Benefit of adding kiln insulation?
I'd think the kiln is just under powered, adding more insulation may not help much at all.
If your car is under powered and you're driving up a hill, getting the passenger to walk will technically make it faster but likely not enough to matter.

Re: Makita 5010 sander
No disagreement from me here, I have 7 motorized pieces of coldworking all use water except one. (not counting handpads etc) The one that doesn't use water is hardly ever used except to arris a large piece of glass.

For those who think I am blowing "silica" This is from Greg Rawls website, he's a member here and a CERTIFIED INDUSTRIAL HYGIENIST http://www.gregorieglass.com/Health_Safety_Chemical.html Ground Glass OSHA classifies glass dust as a “Nuisance Dust” Ground glass does not cause silicosis. Yo...

Oh so close!!! I thought we'd have agreement and nothing else........ Maybe next time. I find it really interesting how some people here get totally worked up about a small amount of glass dust, while in industry there is a crazy amount of glass dust in glass factories EVERYWHERE. An awful...

Re: Fiber insulation???
Thanks Bert, I think I will likely replace the blanket for board. This kiln is designed similar to the denvers except that this one is built really solid, well built. I've always watched the glassified ads here and said why doesn't anything good every come up for sale here. I went on kijiji (like cr...

Fiber insulation???
I just got a new fiber kiln 24" x 48" that has fiber blanket insulation on the sides, it's baffled in six or seven rows. The question is does blanket folded like this provide more or less insulation than an equivalent amount of fiber board? The top and bottom are board but the sides are bl...

Re: Volume of glass question
that's where coldworking comes into the equation. Sometimes it's the only way to square up an edge.
Coldworking (grinding and polishing) can take a nice piece and make it a great piece. It takes it to the next level, "finishes it off".

Re: Kiln element isn't working.
You will most likely need to heat that element up with a propane torch to stretch it and twist it, as the elements are very brittle at room temperature. I did this as a temporary fix, and it lasted for at least a year with almost daily firing. I've since replaced the element but it's a fix that can ...

Re: Tile Saw problem
On my tile saw the button to stop the blade from turning bent and would no longer stop the rotation. I removed the mechanism and now just insert a screw driver (or similar steel bar) into the hole. That should stop the rotation enough to turn the nut and remove the blade.

the nut and bolts of nuts and bolts is just that Nuts and bolts. Literally where you drill a hole through the glass and bolt it to something. A wall, a railing, baillister etc. As for laminating..... well that is a whole other animal. I have done it and on occasion do it. I'm not going to give advic...
