Re: best quality bump on feet for bowls

I got some nice and tiny bump-ons from His Glassworks (look under "acccessories")...current price shows as $4.95 for a sheet of 225. I've used them on coasters for a few years now, and they stick well and are unobtrusive. I really like them.

Re: Custom Molds for Thermoforming

I've been using Brad's 110J fiber sheets for this sort of forming. It's like 1/8" fiber paper, except it is more rigid and can be re-used many times if handled carefully. It cuts with a craft knife. I use it for slumping small shallow dishes and pocket vases; it works great! I wrap a piece of i...

Re: buying glass

Of course it's better to buy wholesale. Beau seems to be in Australia, though, and shipping costs from the US can be quite horrendous! I just wanted to be sure that he included that consideration and did the math before making a decision. I know what it cost me to have about $1000 worth of glass shi...

Re: buying glass

Keep shipping costs in mind. Ther dealers have already factored that in for you; if you order direct you will have to add on packing and shipping, and probably insurance, too.

Lots in the archives about this; Taurus is the answer for curves, IMO.

Re: Good, not thick, adhesive for break repair?

I made a casting of my hands in a class about 5 years ago. It cracked while cleaning it (got too excited and forgot that the inside might not be completely cool!). I used UV glue and sunshine to repair it; lightly sandblasted it to make sure the crack wouldn't show and it's still together after all ...

Re: Which molds?

I find I use my BE 12" square slumper the most...it's great for square, round and rectangular (sushi) pieces, in a variety of sizes I have a 6" version, which makes a nice companion dish. I also got a set of 3 Bonny Doon mini bottomless molds, which I've been using a lot lately, too. I got...

Re: New and kiln is getting delivered today!

First, put several coats of kiln wash on the floor of your kiln before you fire anything. This will protect it in case of overflow. (better safe than sorry) While you're waiting for Brad's book to arrive. click on Bullseye Glass at the top of this page, and click on "Education". You will f...

Re: Wearing gloves when cutting glass

What Georgia mentioned is a carborundum stone...stained glass suppliers carry them, and they're inexpensive. You can also "swipe" another glass edge along the cut edge, and it will do pretty much the same thing (the motion is like dusting your hands off). I have some glass-handling gloves ...

Re: Pawprints

So sorry for your loss...it's really hard to lose our beloved pets. A couple of ideas...non-toxic glass paint (perhaps Glassline, which is water-based and can go to full fuse) used on the paw to stamp prints. This could be clear-capped and fired, or could be enclosed within multiple layers of clear ...

Re: casting into a carved fire brick?

My first thought was that firebrick is pretty hole-y...I'd be afraid the glass would seep into all the little holes and the resulting piece might look like it has little mushrooms sprouting all over it...??? Not to mention potentially locking the glass into the brick. I'd try a piece with scrap glas...

Re: Copper inclusions

Brushed it on. The lemon juice was per their instructions with no particular reason given, and frankly, I was so out of patience by the time I applied the clear that I wouldn't have wanted to dig out and set up my airbrush! I was doing this on wire, rather than sheet, so it was more hassle to get al...

Re: Copper inclusions

I bought some of the Unique clear color and was less than impressed. I got it at the Las Vegas show last year, and they recommended cleaning the copper well, coating it with lemon juice and then the clear, letting it dry and then firing. After I did all that, it was still dark. For me, it was a wast...

Re: buying a stand alone controller

I got it with the kiln a little over a year ago. It is not, however, a stand-alone controller; I just mentioned it because I find the non-scrolling type easier to program, and thought it was a point to be considered.
