The large glass wholesaler in Florida is Art Glass House in Cocoa Beach. It is pretty far south of Jacksonville on the same coast. I don't know the local retail glass shops in the Tampa/St Pete area that might have fusing glass and supplies. If you would like, email me and I will try to find out mor...

One thing to consider is that E-6000 shrinks (into a thin layer) as it dries. For example, if you use it to glue just a thin border around the edges of something into a frame, it will try to stretch the glass as it dries. This usually results in a crack. For this type of application silicone seems t...

There is also a product called "Attack" (check with a jewelers equipment/supply store). It is a light purple liquid solvent that comes in a retangular can. The items to be "unglued" must be soaked in it (I use a small baby food jar), but the epoxy disolves away.

Speaking of pipes......we had a young dread-locked man come in our gallery a couple months ago with girlfriend and guitar in tow. (We had spotted them earlier in the weekend in the park across the street from us where they were camping, playing & singing heavy metal music with their friends.) H...

Okay, this is how you get rid of them. It's called body language and crowding their space. You move really close to them, pretending you're adjusting/straightening/cleaning your display. Bend over and bump them with your tush if you have to so that you give them a little nudge in the direction you ...

I used to make glass fan pulls that were $10 each or 3 for $25. These were nice, unique, handmade (albeit inexpensive) glass items - and yes I had a big sign hanging over them. People would stop, fondle them, and come into my booth to "shop". I can't tell you how many times I was handed an...

Taking the shop tour of Faour Glass in Tampa (during GAS) I got to see their industrial glass lathe. They don't have a picture of it on their web site, but here is a picture of the large columns they can produce. They are something like a foot in diameter and only take a few hours. http://www.faourg...

Val,
Just a thought - Do you have a rock (gem and mineral type) shop nearby? They usually carry abrasives and polishing compounds including cerium oxide.

Stuart - NiCr is nichrome wire (the same hi temp wire used in ceramics for flower stamans etc.). It comes in several thicknesses, but the thinest is most popular because it is hard to bend. If you can't find it at your local ceramic supply store (usually coiled on a card), email me off board - I hav...

I use those interlocking foam mat squares. It it definitely easier on the feet and legs. I have also witnessed a piece "jump" off a shelf, bounce, and land in a customer's arms all in one piece. So the flooring paid for itself very quickly.

Gale, your work is stunningly beautiful!!!! All of the designs are gorgeous. I could easily see each around my neck and arms. The cast pieces are small and seemingly simple in design, but boy do they pack a punch. I love the sinuous copper wire and the organic look. Thanks for the peek. I look forwa...

I've had fairly good results with ebay, but only on certain types of items. For example finished jewelry has too many listings and doesn't seem to sell well. But individual beads and components do. My inexpensive and moderately priced items sell, but not the high dollar ones. I try to find a niche a...

In mho, going back to the old format will not magically fix everything that some folks think is broken. It is impossible to "ungrow", and things are never exactly the same as you remember them. Also, for me and i'm sure others, it is much easier to find stuff/topics now than it used to be ...

The piece is stunning. I want one. What did you do to keep the sides from sagging while they fused to the bottom section? You want global warming! - it's been in the mid to high 80's and muggy for weeks here in South Florida. The big kilns are taking twice as long to cool down. The A/C is on in the ...
