Re: gold foil

I've been wondering about using silver powder on FV. I use a lot of silver leaf, but using powder mixed with some sort of medium and an airbrush might produce some interesting effects. Anyone tried this or have any thoughts?

Thanks,
Pam

Re: Sand blaster

I have mine outside here in Reno Nevada. I bring the pressure pot inside if it looks like it's going to rain or snow. If I'm not using the sandblaster for a while I cover it with a tarp - also when the leaves are falling or in the spring when stuff is flying off the trees. When stuff gets in the pre...

Re: Cutting rim off drop ring vessel

I do it all the time using a Taurus ring saw. I actually cut it twice- first to cut the lip off and then sideways to cut through the thick part. I then use a lap grinder starting with 70 grit then going all the way to polish. I found that the rim gets really sharp, so I use the pre-polish grit to pu...

Re: drop ring question

Typically I've been going at 300 dph to 1100 then 25 dph to 1250 and holding until it's done. This is for BE 3 - 4 layers. The one yesterday was a bit smaller than the outer edge of the dropring so I was worried from the start.

drop ring question

Has anyone tried putting a kiln shelf on top of a disk to be dropped through a drop ring in order to prevent it from falling through? Any other thoughts on keeping the disk from falling through?

Thanks,
Pam

Hi Ellen, If you're not hosting your site yourself (maintaining the servers etc) I would contact the ISP thta hosts your site and ask them for advice. You could also try the FBI cybercrime site or google to find other cybercrime or security experts in your area. http://www.fbi.gov/cyberinvest/cyberh...

I had been planning for a couple years to turn my hobby of glassmaking into a biz. One strategy was to buy as much of the tools and other expensive stuff while I was still a "suit" working in technology management. That way when the income went away I wouldn't be faced with so many expense...

I use bead mandrels that are inexpensive and easy to obtain through beadmaking suppliers like Arrow Springs. They come in several different diameters. You just coat them with bead release/kiln wash and lay them in between th top and bottom layers of glass like the other posts have illustrated. I've ...

bending metal rod for drop ring vase

I've been making some drop ring vases recently and thought it'd be easy to get some iron and bend it into a simple holder. I've discovered that metal is much more uncooperative than I anticipated and would like to know if anyone could guide me to some info on how to do it. I've tried 1/8" iron ...

Pam, was creating an LLC a complicated expensive process, or just a matter of having an attorney draw up the papers? Karon Hi Karon, I had an attorney do it because a friend volunteered to do it for free. In Nevada you can easily do it yourself by clicking onto the Secretary of State website, downl...

I've also just created an LLC. In reading up on it and talking to the acct and atty though, to protect against liability you must run the business entirely seprerately from your personal finances. This means getting a biz bank account, a tax ID that's different from your SSN, keeping books & mon...

The affect depends upon which side of the dichro you have facing the bottom layer of fusing glass. If you put it dichro-down (using dichro on clear), you'll get the cracked look. If you put the dichro with the glass side down and the dichro up you should get smooth.

helpful e-commerce website

FYI - I just found this website http://ecommerce.internet.com/ that has a lot of good generic info for small biz and e-commerce.

It sends a lot of cookies though (I have them turned off so I have to click to accept in my browser because I'm kind of a privacy freak)

Hi Marc, I was at CR Loo yesterday and looking at their molds is what started me wondering. The molds themselves have nice bottom rims, but that's not where the glass goes. The ones in the BE catalogue may work, but I'd like to see the results of one before I spend the $$. Suzan - I look forward to ...

I have a related question about slumping dinner plates, soup bowls etc. If you slump into a mold, the bottom of the piece will be flat. All the plates and bowls in my cupboard have rims on the bottom - useful for stacking, grabbing etc. I'm stumped about how to make a plate or bowl that is flat on t...

I have a Paragon GL 24 also and have been thinking about firing multiple shelves. Isn't there a way to shut off the top heat and just fire the side elements? Wouldn't that reduce the problem of the top shelf firing faster?

Actually, I used regular detergent - Arm & Hammer - with a 10 min wash cycle. I'll have to send them through a few more times to see if repeated washing causes and problems.

I can't envision the rolled up fabric - how about posting a photo?
