Hello all, I've toyed quite a bit with PMC and art clay ... I've taken classes with Hadar Jacobsen and Robyn Alexander ... and one other. I've enjoyed them all (thanks Robyn) and learned a lot about the medium, but at the end of the day I have had trouble including it in the type of work that I do. ...

Hello ... My understanding is this is how it is done - basics only as I've never done it myself ... Cut some fiber paper/board strips ... say 1/8" thick fiber paper/board and lay them on a kiln shelf a suitable distance apart .. say 1" or so - all horizontal to each other ... then cut 3/4&...

I too use Nova through Costco after looking at all the various options for quite a while and going giddy with all the information. I think someone else here recommended it as an option. I didn't realise I could put it on seasonal hold - that's great! Next year I'll do that - thanks Terry. I use a si...

Hello all, this is a great discussion ... and I'm enjoying the turn it's taking ... Jackie said: "I'm just glad nobody convinced Picasso there was really no market for his sort of work so he should move on to landscapes and still-lifes, and if he could take just a second to add some "bling...

Thanks Charlie,

I believe/hope that's just what the electrician did ... I didn't have enough know how to do the wiring - just told him what I needed ... I'll have to double check with him how it ended up when he returns to finish it all off.

I've been working on a new 200 sq.ft studio for a few months (a slow process when you are doing the work yourself). My family have been having a good time teasing me about the number of outlets I have had the electrician install. I have one double outlet every 2 feet all at working height. I also ha...

That's great Don, very cute! Dani, I'm not quite sure why you would exclude transparency (or coe for that matter) with red enamels ... since (and my experience here is chiefly with enamelling on copper and silver so forgive me if I'm off base with the information here - and I'm more than willing to ...

Web monkey always has great tutorials ... I'm pretty sure they have one that covers forms ... in fact I know they do, and they're very comprehensive and most importantly free!

How about enamels rather than paints? I haven't done any testing ... and red is notoriously difficult on silver anyway ... so much so that it is usually coated in a clear flux first before firing with red (so would think the tin side of glass would be the same)... Of course you'd have to find an ena...

I have a very small skutt (side elements only) and often fire with two shelves - it would have been impossible to do 120 maglesses last year if I was only able to fire 6 at a time - it was pretty slow going doing 10-12! Anyway, I pretty much do what Susan says she does and just do different things o...

Hi Amy, I live fairly near CRLoo and buy from there directly ... not that it helps with the mail orders at all. I've also purchased from Frantz ... they are very nice to deal with. The web site drives me nuts though and doesn't show all that they have. I finally managed to get a catalog out of them ...

I seldom donate, but when I do it's to cause that I personally value and I accept that I may get nothing for it. A previous thread outlined the fact that donation for art could only be tax deductible at the material costs value ... A recent donation of one of my pieces led me to getting into a local...

Oh, and sterling silver and fine silver are different animals ... sterling silver is an alloy of 925 parts silver and 75 parts something else - usually copper, but can be other things too. Fine silver is 999 parts silver. The addition of other materials was added to silver to improve the strength of...

To be honest I usually just cut the strip myself from a piece of sheet which I can do with my metal sheet cutter ... but I thought it was unlikely you would have a tool like this so you could buy the ready made strip from Rio. It comes in 24 gauge - that's .50mm thick (the gauge I usually use for th...

Hi Camaro, You may like the easy way out (buying them), but they really are incredibly easy and simple to make yourself. By making them yourself you are able to vary the width, size of cylinder, shape and all manner of small variations that will make your work unique. Take a piece of sterling silver...
