I dont know kind of glass you use -- I find that most glass is flat at 1525
15--20 min hold I do large and small rounds and find this to be the temp=
Also your glass has to have a base thick enough to let the new glass in.

Graphite Vacuum Molds

I recently seen graphite molds with vacuum bases. I'd like to know if anybody is familiar with this technique. It appeared to me that the glass would be heated from above with a torch as the vacuum pulled the hot glass down into the graphite mold. When I inquired I was told that they were heated in ...

I've had exactly the same experience with carbon and dirty glass. I like the effects that it leaves too, in both my hot glass and my slumping. I'm still looking to remove the carbon prior to working the glass if possible. I've never had it burn off or disapate.

Does anybody have a recipe for the combination needed to mix silicate powder and casting plaster for mold making? Thank you.

I've been using this glass in a crucible and had always wondered if the carbon deposits were visible or had burned out upon reaching temperatures of 2000 degrees +. So from my understanding from Tony's post is that carbon disipates?

This sounds like from your description that it possibly had a sealer that gave sheen to both the agates and/or rocks prior to your purchasing. It possibly could have been a polyurehtane. A polyurethane will trap moisture under the surface, discolor and deteriorate quite rapidly when exposed to outsi...

Carbon Deposit Removal Help Needed

Can anybody help me with carbon removal? There must be a product out there or technique to remove the carbon deposit left by a blow pipe. I've tried tumbling but because of the concave depression it didn't work. Does anybody know anything about the gray carbon deposit left behind - in warm glass slu...

Stained Glass Patterns

The stained glass patterns shown on our website are original patterns giving to us by a woman who worked at Marine World Africa USA - a theme park with wild animals (lions, tigers, monkeys, elephants, etc..). She was the wildlife artist for the park and made pen and ink drawings of the animals at th...

I didn't mean this to be offensive to myself or anybody else

The above picture was never intended to show design or technical execution. It's true it is scrap piled in a mold just not on a shelf. The reason I mentioned using a mold was the fact that it was an inexpensive flower pot drain bowl with kiln wash. I use these drain bowls in a lot of fusion pieces a...

Yes, there are little pokeys on the side. I posted this picture because of it's uniqueness. I would usually grind the edges or do my cold work prior showing it but in this case I wanted to show it to the other artists as is.

Compatability with glass is easily tested by taking 2 small pieces of glass and heating them together with a torch until they are obviously fused. Then stretch the 2 into a long sting. If the pull stays straight the glass is compatable. If it bends or twists it is not. The bend is caused by the fast...

4 Inch Fused Recycled Glass Round Photo

You told me I'd be better off posting fusion so here you are. I did this piece using recycled art glass ruffles and broken vases. The round was fused at 1500 degrees. I made this piece in a small annealing kiln - side fired. The piece appears to be 3D but is as flat as ice, 1/4 " thick and 4&qu...

Yes, the Cobalt Blue is a blown vase and then rolled in the confetti and frit while it's hot. The most interesting part is that I use the glass as a cullet - all colors mixed together. And this particular vase appears ruby red when held to a bright light.

This technique is hot glass, crucible at 2200 degrees, annealing oven at 1000 degrees. We dip blow rods into the hot glass in the crucible, shape it, blow a bubble in it and roll it in the colors. In this case - we made confetti glass in the same manner as mentioned above except the bubble is blown ...

I'm a new member and would be happy to share my fusion and techniques to other members. What would you like to know? I work with 104 COE soft glass which is unusual for kiln fusing but I've been doing it for years and will probably be doing it for several more. The COE of this glass is compatable wi...

This is an example of what I do for a living and I would like to know if anybody liked my work. I also do fusing, casting and slumping. I do recycling and would like to get other people involved. I'm offering a free sample of the recycled glass used in this vase to anybody who wants to try the glass...
