Do not throw away. Send to me. Admittedly it has an odd shape to it, but I have perfect spot for it as garden sculpture, near my newly daylighted water feature (spring that is now outside instead of in my basement).

Cheryl, I also really responded to your work on a strong emotional level. I like the flat work best-- the one slumped piece didn't seem to show off your style well, at least in the photos. All of them made me want to get up close and really really look deeply. I felt drawn in. What impressed me most...

A note from someone new to fusing-- did my first solo fusing in December. Hooked by the magic. While I've had training in art and in design, and have worked in several mediums, including clay, I am finding glass to be the most challenging, and the most addictive. I spend part of most days in my work...

I still want to see photos of the stairs in your house, though, Deb. Any chance? I was fascinated by the story of how they came about.

I'd love it if there were a Warm Glass Association (or whatever, make it sound professional...). I've been thinking its time for one. I'd join in a heartbeat. WGW 2004: I'm hoping for Portland! That way I can visit my daughter and grandchildren Hee hee. And save $ on room & board. I just married...

My kiln is set up on two layers of concrete blocks. The basement floor slants a bit, so I used nails of various sizes to shim the concrete blocks so that the kiln sits level. Took a little experimentation, but it worked, it was simple, and it was cheap. I think I just bought a house (signed contract...

I think your potmelt looks pretty cool, John. Not busy at all, I found the pattern attractive. I'd love to see what you do with it-- what are your ideas?

Deborah, your link didn't work for me. I don't know what happened to the post with the original reference to insert knobs from Lee Valley, but here's the link: http://www.leevalley.com/hardware/page.asp?page=40277&category=3,46742,44007&abspage=1&ccurrency=2&SID= Are these the ones y...

Baffled about why you want to buy glass over the net? There you are in the homeland of fusing! Unless transportation is an issue for you, Sheridan is really close to lots of sources for glass in Oregon. That's where most of what we use for fusing is made, after all! Buying over the net is a good way...

Thanks for the update, Dave. I learned a lot from your questions too. I'm still a "baby fuser", but someday hope to do large size architectural stuff. My dream, anyway...

I'm looking forward to seeing the end result of your project.

Since the windows are being custom built, you should be able to work with your client to have them made with coated glass. Discuss the needs with the firm building the windows-- they should be aware of which coatings will serve your needs best. I am pretty new at fused glass, and have been intereste...

Dave, east and west facing windows may actually get more direct sun and heat build-up than south facing windows, especially during summer months when the sun rises in the NE and sets in the NW at northern latitudes. The sun is moving in a parabolic arch, so that it is shining at closer to a 90 degre...

I was a potter in Portland at the time Helen blew. For years, I think every potter in the NW at least did a trial of ash for glaze! Some were so-so, but there were also some very beautiful effects. It became kind of a cliche for a while-- lots of people doing tourist souvenir items. Then glass peopl...

My daughter uses baking soda very judiciously to add bubbles when she wants that effect. I haven't tried it myself yet-- I just learned how to keep bubbles OUT!

Probably others can give you details on how this is done. Then I can add it to my list of things to try someday.

Deb, I am new to fused glass too, and I'm trying my best to learn from other folks' mistakes so I can avoid them! What kind of glass did you use? On my monitor it looks as if you capped the squares with clear. If you did cap, I'm wondering if perhaps it was a different sort of glass, and that might ...

I just bought a Jen-Ken kiln 15-6 with the same electrical requirements as yours. He also put in a separate 15 Amp circuit with three outlets for my lights, radio...

Another newbie here. I've been reading this board for weeks now-- what a feast. I am a former potter who always considered clay just a place to put glaze. The first time I saw glass fusing, I knew that is what I want to do. Actually, I went bonkers. I just went through the kiln selection process too...
