overkill. mixed is mixed. when it is mixed wet properly it is even . you want to do extra work just because then fine.

Re: Mixing large amounts of dry plaster and silica

why would you mix that dry? you will never get an even mix so your castings would be un predictable. you slake the proper proportions into water when making molds. the mix happens in the water. r.

Re: Any idea what went wrong?

yes that can cause bubbles but it is not the water. the water is all gone way before slumping temp. the wet kw just allows the glass to form a really even seal around any depression. the steam leaves . if it did not there would be an explosion. water expands by 200+ times when it goes to steam.

Re: challenges making a glass mask

lots of issues including annealing. first off do you have air holes in the low parts of the mold? you need those. in order to get help you need to state the thickness of the glass and your exact schedule up and down. r.

Re: Place slump mold directly on kiln Shelf?

i like to elevate my molds off the shelf. it helps to avoid heat shocking the shalf and aids in evenivity. you can also put molds on the floor of the kiln if height is an issue.r.

i would use a tile saw and cut a 12 or so sided shape. . r.nevermind. i was focusing on the donut , not the hole. that said, there is easier stuff to make a drop ring out of if that is what you are doing.

You could, but it's bad for the kiln elements.

Isn't it opposite of that? A reducing atmosphere will strip off the protective oxide coating that is on the elements.
