Generic pot melt

My kiln is only 6 inches deep, I would like to do a pot melt but I have not been able to figure out how to do that, so instead I was thinking of taking some scraps/ frit and melting them down in a cast paper weight mold, and then flatten that chunk ' o glass down to use in another design. Is this po...

So . . . exhibit some of this open mind, and relax. There is a time to be aggressive, but normally, people wait for a reason. I didn't give you one. Brock This would be a time that you are asked for clarification???? Yes there were posts between Dennis Brady and I, as for if anyone else was offende...

HAAAAAA HAAAAAAA HAAAAAAAAA, Is that light enough for you Brock? Truth to the matter is, Vickie asked for some feedback, but I don't think she expected to be called a "tool junkie" when she did it, Secondly you made the comment that she could NOT compete with those who were already floodin...

You sound like a tool junkie Vickie. It's an expensive quirk. I don't buy a tool until I have a specific need for it, and I still have stuff that is, shall we say, underutilized. For fusing applications, that kind of saw is going to have limited use for you. You could produce shapes unattainable by...

Re: torch question

I bought a tiny jewlery torch, butane, $10 to start working glass stringers. An improvement over awkward mapp gas one we had. It worked fine for awhile but developed a leak. Now I'm trying to decide between a hothead, which seems to to be as awkward as the mapp or a burn-z-matic with 3ft. hose and ...

Well said, and agreed.......... I do not make a full time living at glass, although I hope within the next 10 years that I do not need to punch a time clock every day. I know what it's like to lose business to China, Mexico etc....... I may lose my job earlier than I'd like to because of it, the onl...

If I did confuse willingness to learn with expectations of immediate sucess, then I appologize, but your classification of those new to the field as "wannabees" makes it hard to interpret your intentions. Yes, I am new to the warm glass field, although I have been working with cold glass f...

Sales of some things are up, while others are down. Some places have increased sales, while others decreased. As a whole I think it's fairly stable. Maybe the main reason sales for warm glass are declining isn't reduced market demand, but increased supply of product. There's a steady flow of wannab...

Well looks and sounds can be deceiving......... I just removed the red seal from the bottle, and it is PLASTIC. I don't think that would have smelled very good at all :)

Thanks for your replies,
Robin :)

I am guessing that it is aluminum, very thin. I havent taken it off yet but it seems to be the same material that the cap would be made out of????
If I don't hear different by morning, I may just try it and see what happens

Tanquerey bottle

The green Tanquerey Gin bottle has a red metal seal on it. Does anyone know what is made of, or what will happen if I leave it on and slump the bottle?

Thanks in advance,
Robin :)

Thanks Tom! I must say that thanks to Pattys tutorial, I can cut circles like a pro, but rims I have had no luck with. I need to get a piece of carpet, maybe that would help............ No if I could just fix what I already messed up! :D What if I brought it back up to full fuse again with a narrow ...

Broken Rim

Hi all, I have been working on a plate the last couple of days. After attempting to cut a rim for it twice, and breaking it both times, I decided to fire the broken rim anyways. Only problem is that now I have 4 1/16 inch gaps around my rim, which is white on a clear base. Is there anyway to fix the...

Thanks Tony!
So then if I want to save the irid coating ( regular spectrum ) I should fire with the textured side facing my kiln shelf? How does this affect the texture at full fuse?

Well, I tried a test with Pilot gold metallic paint marker on black with a clear cap, it practically vanished. What brand marker can withstand fusing temps?

Thanks,
Robin :)
