I neglected to say that I'd planned to have a shelf and a couple of pounds of float in the kiln when I do the heating/cooling rate checks, just to model the actual use as much as possible. Sensible?

If you are really concerned about heat, you can put up cement tile board over the walls. Install the board on 1 inch spacers so air can circulate behind the board. Try the kiln before you do anything, check the kiln surface temperature as it fires. My bet is it doesn't get very hot. This is reassur...

One point about powder coating: Since it is essentially a plastic coating, you can't 'touch it up'. This may or may not matter for your application.

Is the second kiln square or still octagon? Are they both 15 amp or will the other one be 20 Amp. They are both octagonal and 15 amp. I would recommend getting the controls. I've gone through the archive and settled on a simple 50/50 hydrocal white/230 flint blend. I'me assuming the water requirement is based on the plaster content and that the flint just goes along for the ride, right?
