I knew that I could count on ya´ll! Thanks for all of the info. A min. order of $1,000.00 is too much...not only the price but remember that I will have to lug all of this stuff back to Germany. I´ll remember not to buy any white glass powder (frit). Heaven only knows what the customs agents will ...

FLORIDA ANYONE?

Howdy Ho!!! I´m going to be visiting Florida for a week. (Currently residing in remote Germany). Would like to know if anybody can give me a heads up as far as where to get glass supplies? I will be in the Tampa/St. Pete area. However, I will be passing through Jacksonville and Gainsville. (GO GATO...

I use Murphy Oil Soap (as the separator) which can be found at any large supermarket. It has worked for me....and the price is right. Let me know if you try it.

Thanks Charlie for all of the helpful info. If I use two sheets of glass (Bullseye) the weight will make more detail? I thought that it would be the other way around but I will give it a try. I will also look at the casting section of this website and see what I come up with thanks to your tip. The ...

Just a heads up. I draped a sheet of glass over the mold consisting of the potters plaster, the SiO2 (quartz), and the grog. The mold withstood the temp. up to 1400 degrees for well over 30 min. The final result was that I had to chisel the mold out of the glass. Undercuts? Don´t think so. Wrong pl...

Thanks for the info. Someone else (actually GLS a terrific German art glass store) told me that they used fiber paper and added that to their secret recipe for making molds. They crumple & tear up the used fiber paper that they otherwise would have discarded and add it.

OK this is what I´ve found out. Bohle does carry a cement mix used for making glass molds. It isn´t silica but it sounds like some good stuff. However, seeing how I don´t have a business license/tax id # they will not sell it (or anything) to me. The local potter appears to be just as perplexed a...

Eating Silica? German anyone?

Can anyone tell me if it is possible to eat silica? Here´s why I need to know..... I am currently located in northern Germany and my German is limited. Looked up the word for silica in a German/English dictionary and came up with "Kieselerde". Am trying to make my own molds and need it to...

Slumping Glass/Face Molds

Just curious if anyone can tell me what trick to use to keep glass from sliding off of a face mold prior to and during fusing? The nose just seems to get in the way. Any info. would be greatly appreciated! ]
