what wheels for fellisetti

I have a felliseti angle grinder with diamond pads that I use on my glass.
A friend asked me if he could use it tomorrow to polish a marble piece of his. Will that work?

Box Casting.Has anyone experienced devit?

Lauri,
I usually use talc plus silica and plaster for the splash layer for this same reason. Do you know how they compare?

Hi Lauri, Billets are something new from Bullseve. They are preformed transparenr rectangles of glass 5" x 10" x 3/4 " and weigh approx. 3.5 pounds each. They have few if any bubbles and come 10 billets to a box or they sell per billet I think they have about 11 colors now, They are e...

Box Casting.Has anyone experienced devit?

Thanks Charlie, I think I will email Ted. because I plan to do many more and many more sizes. It would seem a shame to have to cold work the top after using expensiv e billets for the sake of clarity. Also, at the workshop the edges were clear. Mine have texture of the smoother side of the fiber pap...

is there a dvit fix

I just took three box cast reverse relief pieces out of the kiln. They turned out nicely, except there was some clouding and "pruning " around the edges of two. Plus a few"fins"on the edges. I plan to just cold work the edges and clarify the rest with Watco oil or something. I fo...

steaming wax out of moulds

At Corning they have steamed wax out by placing smaller moulds in a pot of boiling water covered with foil. The mould steams out cleanly. At anouther class at Corning a pressure cooker was used. Tubing was connected to the steasm value on top the lid. Wire was wrapped around the tubing so that it co...

stainless steel containment for plaster mold

A plaster mold containing 35 pounds of glass broke open in my new oplymic kiln on the 1st firing. I had to replace all bricks and the element on the bottom level. Needless to say I learned much from that experience. That said, here is my question: Has anyone out there wrapped their molds in a ss sle...

Charlie,
Thanks for your reply.
I think I invisioned it bubbling up and moving around at the melt point, the way water boils and then spills over.
I think I will set it on grog as per usual and spread some extra aroumd mould-- just in case.

talc

I only use talc for the first layer or to make up part of the sculpture if I am encasing it in glass. It does not strengthen. It makes the mixture softer and smoother, I think.
I get talc from STANDRED CERAMIC in Pittsburgh. Any ceramic supply store.

refiring glass sculpture in new mould

After three unsucessful firings of a large piece containing a negative plaster sculpture I have decided to try one more time. The first time there was a power outage during annealing The second time the relay box to the controller blew a fuse the third time two rings of elements burned out in the ki...

KIln wash on bottom

I kiln washed the bottom of my new kin leaving an inch boarder from sides. I was told a long time ago that Kiln wash should never come in contact with elements In my old ceramic Skutt kin I always placed a layer of course grog on the bottom. any spills collected on that. I always used grog under cer...

I always use raku tongs to either remove pot from kiln so that a nipple will not be left on the glass when removed. I place pot into old metal rinser for old washing machines that I found on a curb and I put sand on the bottom and have a metal lid. I use tongs to add more glass from another flower p...

A source for bronze, brass or copper powder is Montoya Sculpure and Fine Art Supply in Florida.
I think a 1 pound can of copper powder is about $15.00
I can't find web site right now, but you can call 1-800-682-TOOL(8665) to
place an order or request a catalog.
