Els - Could the spots have been there all along and you just didn't notice? Heh, that's happened to me once or twice. An unsuspected culprit of a problem I had once is when I used plastic cleaner for plexi by mistake on a piece of glass that had SuperSpray on it. It ruined the finish. I refired it a...

Heh! Hey, Tony, that's one I've never been asked before! KEWL! I'd take it as a compliment and forget it. People have no clue sometimes that they're being insulting to us when they ask if our work is recycled plastic, Corian or whatever. They're just amazed and say the first thing that pops into the...

Although I do love SuperSpray I would strong suggest you NOT use it on jewelry. A splash of Limeaway and certain other things will destroy the finish SuperSpray and turn it white. I learned that the hard way after putting Limeaway on the back of a bowl to remove stuck kilnwash that had superspray on...

Tony, I am grinding my edges, but I do not use Thinfire. Sharon Are you washing them really really well before you fire? As soon as I finish grinding mine, I plop them in a bowl of warm water and leave them there until I am ready to wash them. This helps keep the ground glass from drying and sticki...

Thanks guys! As soon as the airbrush arrives, I'll be at Home Depot to get the compressor. YAY! New toys, oops, I mean tools. LOL.

Air compressor for air brush

I've already looked through the archives for this topic and the latest posts I found were made back in April. Do anyone have a recommendation for an inexpensive air compressor for running an airbrush? I want it to run on regular household current. I understand the oil less ones are loud. What should...

You can tack fuse it on before you slump. No glue needed.

It sticks to the kiln wash and you get little splotches of kiln wash on the back that are very difficult to get off.

If you find someone to unwrite such a policy, Dick, please let us know. The only one I can think of who might do it is Llyod's of London. They'll insure almost anything for the right price.

LOL.

I understand that Charlie, but in the intrest of keeping a good relationship with my gallery is more important to me than any one particular piece. And I am taking a stance that each situation needs to be evaluated on it's own terms and this particular gallery only has large work that isn't going t...

Whew! That's quite a question! One of the challenges of doing commissions is that the person who wants the job done has an idea in their head for exactly how it's going to look and they may not be able to adequately convey it to you. I'd make sure you did detailed drawings and made them sign off on ...

I'd vote for the weekend, too. Last year I was asked to do one of these by a women's arts group in S.CA. It was on a Wednesday afternoon, as I recall. Attendance was light because so many of the invitees were at work. In my experience, weekdays are not a good time for shows. Personally, I wouldn't e...

I did that in the past with mixed results...LOL. I was in one wonderful gallery for 5 years. In all that time they had minimum theft and only two pieces were broken. I ate the cost because they sold enough work that a little breakage and theft was was worth it for me. Early in my fusing career I mad...

So what did you say? LOL. Or did you let it pass in quiet dignity? Geri I took a deep breath... then I showed them the super glued before/after pieces and told them that I did them in a kiln... the guy left pretty quickly, and there were a few ladies snickering quietly in the corner. They'd been in...

I was wondering if this thread would get off the ground! I'm one of the people in the crowd, not an artist...yet. My husband and I just attended a show this weekend in fact and we try not to be one of *those* customers. And my husband - being a quiet, introspective sort - seems to overhear more tha...

Don't you love it when people come into your booth and tell everyone else there how your stuff was made? This weekend I had a guy come in and tell others he was with (loudly) that he knew all about this stuff and I used a furnace and dropped globs of glass onto TIN FOIL, then put a hook in it while...

Tee hee! Glad to pass along what I learned from a truly excellent salesman. At first you may feel a little weird doing it, but truly, it works when a group of people who have no interest in your work are blocking the entrance to your booth by having a long conversation. It may take a few "accid...
