Re: first time using ceramic molds

Brenda I'm glad to see that I not the only one that doesn't take the wash off my molds. I hate to waste something that might still be good. I always buy my molds in greenware stage than bisque fire them myself. The other day I was using a bowl mold for the first time and instead of slumping I draped...

Archie, also make sure that your ceramic molds have holes in them just like the regular glass mold do. If you don't the air between the glass and the mold has no where to go and you will get bubbles or possibly have a hard time releasing the glass from the mold.

I have Sun Sculpture molds which make flowers. The rose one that I have only makes three petals at a time. To make one rose I have to fire this mold 5 times. Have a look at the below site to give you an idea if this is similar to your mold. The pictures of the books are small but click on the book t...

I use a large Paragon ceramic kiln with a kiln sitter to do my glass work. I have never used a glass kiln. Stuart is right, you have to experiment with the kiln but that is the same with any type of kiln. I also use a pyrometer which I could not slump or fuse glass without. I find that it is much mo...

Thanks Bert and Marty. I was concerned if I just placed one piece on top of the other, when the glass was slumping that it might slide the top board out of place with the motion of the glass moving. This is my first experment with fiberboard and wanted to know from the experts first.

help cutting out drop ring from fiberboard

I have instructions on how to make a fiberboard drop ring but the information uses a 1" board. My friend bought me 1/2" board by mistake and I don't have the heart to ask her to return it. Can I use the 1/2" to make the drop ring or should I put two pieces together to make the 1"...

Re: Havin' fun with pot melts

Jerry, after making the pot melts did you fuse them onto the full black glass circle?
Thanks

Ceramic glazes fired on glass

I was recently given a box of older Duncan ceramic glazes, paint etc. Has anyone tried using these on glass? If so, how successful was it and do you have any pictures of your work? I know that some of them say that they are not food safe but I figured if they work I could make coasters, candle holde...

Re: Still Playing with Copper

Judy Your copper work is awesome. I am new at using the kiln for glass and want to try your copper technique. Do you fuse the copper between two sheets of float or Spectrum 96 and slump in a mold at the same time? Or do you do one firing of fusing the copper and glass then a second firing into the s...

hoknok - What size of a kiln do you have if you fire that many bottles at once compared to Charlie's three to four. Do you use multiple shelves for each firing or just one?

I get my plastic bumpers from our local lumber yard supply dealer. They sell kitchen cupboards and get them from their cabinet suppliers for putting on the inside of the cupboard doors.

Thanks Charlie and Rosanna. I really like the idea of cutting out a template after the fact. I already have washed my shelf so it will be dry tomorrow to use. Can't wait to try this out.

How many bottles can be fired at once

I am using a Paragon Ceramic Kiln to fire my glass. I am going to try slumping some regular wine bottles but am wondering how many to put in my kiln and about how far apart as I know that when they slump they will spread but by how much. My kiln shelf looks to be approx 23" and is round. I am g...
