Sprinkling those enamels

I found a cheap and simple way to sprinkle my Thompson enamels so that you have more control. I took a simple kitchen sieve about 3 inches in diameter, one where you might want to sieve out the spices or in my case lumps in a sauce. I stretched a piece of panty hose (you can use a knee high) over th...

The good news is that it's brother survived and I am quite pleased. Will try to post photo soon. Again, my sincerest thanks for all of your help and patience. Lydi...

The glass is all spectrum 96, the base is 2 mm, the rest is 3. The reason I think I created the small crack is that yes, when I pulled it out to darn early no crack...then as I realized it was hot and put it down. Later low and behold when I put it upright in the stand you could see a small crack th...

I am afraid it is a crack as I can feel it with my finger nail on the surface a little. I am afraid I just didn't peek, being the impatient fool I am some times. I pulled it out when the kiln said about 180, but then realized the piece was much hotter. The piece has a total of 7 layers, some only tw...

Help with a slump and crack...newbie..

Warm friends, I recently completed an item that has a total of a number of layers of glass, it isa 6 x 6 " tile. The piece developed a small interior crack which I would like to try and fix.....can I just bring the item slowly back up to 1450 and fuse again? (I think I caused the crack as I loo...

My first fuse item photos

Well I have learning a ton from all of you....a big thank you to all. I have posted my second, third and fourth fuse. The fish is the last one, the photo doesn't show well, it is actually a bright orange clownfish with a lifted fin. The aqua is a small bowl and the geometric bright blue is a square ...

Or even cut out the lovely flowers and layer them on top of another white or colored piece of glass and then try to fuse again.

Jeremy, Those look great, especially proud since you are from Columbus, (me too) and from a lampworking background. Am I to understand you had a base glass and then the dichro...no cap? Combing

Staci,
I wouldn't use a normal combing instrument as all you will get is a cut line through the frit. Try using a brush so that you drag lines a sections down in a combing fashing, or even try gently tapping the backside in certain areas. Let us know how it turned out.

PVC pipe display

Ok, don't look at the mess around it, but this is how I store my rods for lampworking. I bet you could use the same for your stringers. If you lay them on their side your stringer could hang out a little so you could see what you had easily. I got these at Home Depot and they cut them for me for fre...

How do I measure my mold?

http://store7.yimg.com/I/yhst-3328593146220_1781_47847604 Glass pals, I have ordered the mold you are seeing and question how to measure. I know on my round bowl molds you draw around and go in say 1/4". However if you want the fuse glass and have a specific design as a square insert in your f...

Winestoppers

Kim, Yes they are Moretti. About 2" in height...I also made round ones where I melterd in dots on dots and then the final dot left raised. These were very popular, in fact I really got tired of making them for awhile. It was funny when folks gave them for gifts as the receiver many times didn't...

Another newbie question, please...

Ok, this is kind of a stupid question, but I am a beginner in this field. Say you cut a glass circle for a top or bottom piece and it cracks. A clean crack for shards, can you still use it? Can you simple use it during the fusing process like you would other pieces of glass in your project? Thanks a...

Thanks

Thanks ladies, good information to have. By the way, I love those paint and fire shops. One of my foundest memories is spending an afternoon with my favorite little cousins painting our hearts out. I am in Ohio and they are in NC, so it made it really fun to get my plate in the mail! Lydia
