Re: sink mold used for hanging light?

Curious if you have made this, would love to see a photo. How did you support it when drilling the holes and what type of hardware did you use?

Re: Removing glass plug from diamond drill bit

If I cant get the glass out, I put the bit in a vice and then take a nail, and hammer the glass so it breaks up in to tiny pieces that will just fall out.

Re: And another drop ring vessel

I use a flat lap grinder to smooth and polish the edges. It was a big investment but well worth it. Also helped to grind off some kiln wash that got stuck on the bottom of a flat piece.

Re: Silver leaf/foil

Can you fuse it uncapped? It shouldn't turn yellow that way.

Re: And another drop ring vessel

They both used scraps I had from Bullseye limited sheet glass, that used French Vanilla and light turquoise blue. I think I have enough left to make 1-2 more vases, but after that I am out of luck, since this was a "limited edition" glass.

And another drop ring vessel

This one used more opaque glass and dropped a little deeper than the other one. The lip came off a lot more easily on this one, thanks goodness. Less coldwork to do!

Drop Ring Vessel

After much trial and error, I have a presentable drop ring vessel. I used 4 layers of glass, and it dropped about 5". 3 layers was sometimes just a little too thin. I like the feel of the heavier vessel with 4 layers, so I think I will stick with that. The colors remind me of the beach, so I am...

Re: Arranging glass on shelf

Do you have a lighttbox? Maybe you can trace the pattern onto the shelf paper using your laser print out.

Pearl 22 - lid removal?

Hi, I am receiving a Paragon Pearl 22 kiln tomorrow. Does anyone know if its possible, or how easy it is (for my mechanically inclined husband) to remove the lid to make it lighter to lift up on to my table? He changed the pneumatic thing in my trunk recently, so I hope these skills might also apply...

Thanks, I will check mine tonight. I know I don't have that "anneal now" button though, that seems VERY handy.

Re: Draping Problem

And make sure you peek now and then when you're approaching top temp, so you can move on to annealing when your drape looks like you want it to. This might be a stupid question, but if you have programmed your kiln, how do you move on to the annealing when it looks like you want it to look? Do you ...

Re: Cutting rim off drop ring vessel

I can imagine its hard to keep it still on the grinder. Thanks for the information. I think this is something I might tackle down the road, since I don't currently have a lap grinder.

Cutting rim off drop ring vessel

What is the best way to cut the rim off a drop ring, so it becomes a "rimless" vase. Any suggestions for best way to cold work that edge, can you successfully use sanding pads, or would I need something like a lap grinder or belt sander?

Re: Viewing windows in kilns

I just purchased a new kiln and asked the shop owner the same thing. He said no. Why do you need one? You can just open the kiln to check on glass. he also said they can let air escape, even if ever so slightly.

Durock-vitrigraph kiln

Can you use durock as the bottom of a vitrigraph kiln instead of fiber board?
