hand polishing

I recently bought some floatglass, and some pumice( a corase, and a fine), silicon carbide (120-400-800 grit), and some Cerium Oxide. I am working on polishing the side of a cast pyramid, and I was wondering if anyone had some ideas how long it would take using the cerium oxide to get a good polish ...

does dichroic stand up in a pot melt?

I have alot of dichroic odds and ends that are small bits and peices left over from a decade of projects, and I was thinking of trying throwing some of it into a pot melt cast pyramid. would the dichroic withstand the heat of around 1600 degrees? I have been using blue and green aventuring powder an...

Re: Using Terra Cotta for catching pot melts.

I find, since I cant use a proper terra cotta pot, only the trays, that once the glass gets to a certain thickness, it stops flowing because of the lack of enough gravity of glass pushing down. what I currently have in my kiln is the leftover glass from my last potmelt, that cracked into large peice...

Using Terra Cotta for catching pot melts.

I have a small, tabletop kiln with an 8x8x6 chamber and a controller, and I have been using garden variety terra cotta planter trays with holes chiseled into them to allow me to potmelt into stainless steal pyramid molds (with one layer of kiln paper against the mold, and then 1/16th inch fiber pape...

Re: polishing using dremel tool

I have found that I can get a certain degree of polish with the 50 to 3000 grit granite/glass diamond hand pads, but not a perfect optical clarity. I mainly am using it for pyramid paperweights, so they have a flat surface to begin with that the hand pads refine and smooth out. would it be possible ...

polishing using dremel tool

I just got, and played around with some diamond hand pads ranging from 50 grit, all the way to 3000 grit, and they worked well to flatten the surface of a glass pyramid. I had intended to have a inland 8 inch swap top lap wheel, but the retailer cancelled my order, and inland wont tell me when they ...

Re: INLAND LAPIDARY SwapTop All-In-Wonder 8" TRIM SAW, FLAT

my swaptop lapidary got cancelled, so I am taking it as a sign from the universe to wait till I can afford a nicer one. I would love a magnetic 12 inch lap, but those are expensive. I used a 24 inch one, and it was great.

Re: Patty Gray dams

I still use the stainless still ring she gave me at a workshop when it turned out there was not going to be enough kiln space for me to do a raking.

anyone have a link talking about the new dams?

Re: INLAND LAPIDARY SwapTop All-In-Wonder 8" TRIM SAW, FLAT

just waiting for inland to get production going again. apperently early this year, they hit a snag, and they claimed they would be rolling them out again in april, but still, it seems the supplier I ordered mine from hasn't gotten any. trying to decide if I want to spend the extra 150 to buy the sam...

Re: What is in shelf paper?

I use thin fire because it produces a less noticable texture, and sometimes, I want it as smooth as possible. I also use thin fire becuase it allows me to cast pyramids in stainless steel molds. just create a hexagon, fold into a pyramid, slip in the mold, and tada, you just fill it with glass, and ...

Re: INLAND LAPIDARY SwapTop All-In-Wonder 8" TRIM SAW, FLAT

I ordered the flat lap and base unit. does the lap wheel get the job done for polishing purposes. I bought it mainly as a way to grind and polish pyramid paperweights for the purpose of hobby work, not really mass production. it should be shipping out tommarow, hopefully, as it was on backorder. my ...

I acutally used the design I had created for the glass rods for a final project in a fusing course I am finishing. Instead I made it out of a clear base, and black iradised glass for part of the design, though when done with rods it will be solid color. I just filled it in with frit to make it level...

Higher C.O.E. sheet glass question

I have heard that you can get fusing glass in 104 C.O.E. but have not been able to find it. The reason is i have a design is basied out of 104 Morritti Glass rods, and was hesitant to just glue them to each other with out a glass surface until it to make it more stury. I was wondering if anyone had ...
