Where did you purchase your decals? They should offer some suggestions for best results.
I know that Tanya Veit sells them over at AAE Glass.

Re: dichroic stringer, different types?
I've seen 1 and 2mm dichroic stringer in clear and black. Problem for me is that they can roll, covering the dichro, which is only coated on one side of them. I bought some dichroic coated rods once from Pacific Art Glass but they were short, only about 8" long. I've coated stringer in hairspra...

Re: Irid Food Safe?
I tell customers to use their fused glass like they'd use fine china dinnerware, which means no knives. I'm always stunned when someone purchases one of my pieces and plans to eat off it though, since I can't imagine spending a few hundred bucks on a piece and then plopping a steak on it, but hey, o...

Re: pitted shelf
JenKen supplies a paste-like patch material for their fiber kilns. I've applied it with a putty knife, let it dry, and then sanded smooth. Its held up for about a year so far. Might work on the shelf too.

Re: Seam with white residue
I seldom grind because it causes the roughened glass to trap the tiniest bits of scum which can be hard to scrub away, especially if left to dry. This scum fires on and is commonly seen around the edges of pendants that people grind to shape. I believe it's even more apparent if the pieces are fire-...

Re: Fusing sand in a piece
I think it was the 2012 magnet exchange, but there was a wonderful magnet with a domed top which was full of sand. Perhaps check with Brad to see if the older archives are available.

I bought a sandblaster; now what?
I took the plunge and bought this Rayzist unit:

Any suggestions for resources to teach myself to use it?
I'm shopping for a compressor now. Rayzist told me Grainger's would be the best place but I'm open to suggestions.
Thanks!

Sounds like your relay gave out. I'd start with replacing it and go from there.

Unique Glass Colors makes a couple metallic paints that work fairly well and are very inexpensive. I'm hoarding my bottles of the real stuff!

Bullseye has just started carrying the new Colorline paints; they're amazing! They also qualify for Bullseye's volume discount.

Re: Gold leaf quality
As already stated, don't both with gold leaf. Not only is it very difficult to work with, but it just doesn't fuse well. I fired several layers between two layers of glass and got an ugly brownish stain. I've used Bullseye's gold foil and like the results very much. Easier to cut and handle too. You...

Re: Can I replace my plug?
If you forget to switch out the sending unit/thermocouple from one kiln to another when you've plugged in one kiln without it........ :-k #-o #-o #-o That is why you don't do what you are thinking of doing. Not sure what you're concerned about Kevin. There's no switching of the thermocouple from on...

Re: Layering colors to make new colors
I should be clear: the color combos were from Bullseye's video. They did the legwork to come up with this first group of colors. I simply wrote down the info and made the tiles for my reference. I've sorted them from light to dark on my studio display board.

Re: Can I replace my plug?
I don't have the GL24 here yet but looked at the plug, and it's different than the Skutt. They do both run on a 50 amp breaker, which I have. Sounds like it would be smarter to take the route you're recommending, Brad. We'll see what the electrician tells me when the kiln arrives in a couple weeks. ...

Can I replace my plug?
I've got a Skutt 1414 with a dedicated outlet. I'm adding a 12-year old Paragon GL24. I've only got the amperage to run one at a time, so I'm thinking I'll have the Paragon's cord changed to a Skutt cord so I can simply swap which kiln is plugged in. Sound reasonable? Any reason I shouldn't do this?

Layering colors to make new colors
I watched the Online Education video lesson on Bullseye's site, and decided to make the samples for future reference. Using the principles of CMYK color mixing and layering over 10 transparent and 10 opal glasses result in 40 new colors. Obviously there are many more colors that can be created but t...

Re: Devit & Vermiculite observation
I had also never had a problem with devit UNTIL I used Tekta with Thinfire. It wasn't always, which fooled me for quite a while, but I eventually figured it out. The only time I do have a problem, it when the two are combined. Exactly! I was only using Thinfire because I felt kiln wash was too much...

Re: Devit & Vermiculite observation
i never had devit problems with my glass during my 12 years of fusing. Bought a case of Tekta and the trouble started immediately, but intermittently. Through plenty of research and experimentation, I've decided it was the Thinfire causing the problem, but only when I'm clear-capping with Tekta. Si...
