Another question
Someone suggesting firing on the duraboard could be different than firing on a regular kiln shelf.
What's the scoop?

Timing is everything!!!! I just received my Duraboard from Randy at Jen-Ken but I was unable to open the instructions he e-mailed me. Do I understand from these posts that you pre-fire the board to 1450 before you put on the rigidizer? :?: Then you fire again after putting the rigidizer on bo...

Dan, You bought the correct glaze. One thing I discovered while experimenting with the various thicknesses is that the thin copper when placed close to the edge of the glass seemed to get black and the middle turned red. I used the Borax spray and the glaze on different thicknesses. The only thing I...

Dan,
What gauge copper are you using? I've been experimenting with the copper from Michael's and the copper from Nimrod Hall. I posted some of my experiments on http://www.picturetrail.com/judyfla go to album on copper & glass.

I don't know which Jen-Ken you have but if it's the oval kiln, there are two sets of elements in the lid. You might be getting the FTH because one set of elements is not heating up properly. As previously suggested, talk to Mike or Randy. I just had a long conversation with Randy on Friday regarding...

Kathie, Yes, just plain old rubbing alcohol (just a few drops). I've never fired it on top of glass -- only between two layers. There's a bowl on my picturetrail site where I played with the Pearl Ex. I think I did four different colors on it just to see the different affects. I get my stands from a...

Hi Sandi, Regarding the bowls with copper inclusions, I do two firings. The first one to fuse the copper between the two layers of double strength float then the second firing to slump the piece. Slumping temperatures would not be not enough to fuse the glass together. The panels are, of course, don...
