I have found that depending on the light and angle, Black Cherry from CBS will give you flashes of the color you describe. I have a much smaller kiln, an 11" JenKen, with top elements only. When doing jewelry, I often use two shelves - a full fuse on the top shelf and a fire polish on the bottom shelf. I go fairly fast with pieces that small so the bottom shelf stays substantially cooler than the top. This does not...

Clamshell Question

For those of you who have the Skutt Clamshell, which I will probably be buying sometime next year, do you have it sitting on the provided 8" stand only, or do you have it higher? If so, what do you have it sitting on? Having not seen one in person, I can't quite get the height thing worked out....
