isn't breathing compressor air incredibly dangerous? there's good reasons that scuba tanks aren't filled with normal air compressors. Compressed air from a "normal" compressor is compressed air and, depending upon the type of compressor, it might have traces of oil or other lubricants in ...

I found it under "Abrasives". Do shop around. I found that prices vary dramatically. $25 for a 50lb bag is what I pay too.

Joyce-

Phil built the kiln himself (with some help from his son)!!

I'm sure he'd be glad to quote you a price...

Hey Phil- Congrats on the new "baby"!! I guess that rigidizer worked, eh? We've been using the stuff I got from you on the two forges we built and soon we will be installing all the refractory in the multi-hole, so we'll be trying it there as well. Can't wait to see more of your work! -Dar...

Hi Stuart!

To help eliminate the controller as a potential suspect, you may want to run your firing program again and calculate the time it SHOULD take to ramp to temp and compare that to the time it takes to actually get there.

Of course, you don't need glass in the kiln to do this.

Re: What has gone wrong (sandblasting) here?

All of a sudden my sandblaster is blasting large (relative) chips out of the glass I am blasting. I'm not sure what has changed since I am now on about the 40th piece all done the same. I have replaced the nozzle, added grit, checked for water in tank and generally used a lot of foul language. Coul...

Interesting. I wonder if this would work for the element grooves in the lid too... I'm tempted to pull my elements out of my lid and apply it to the grooves- this is where my "crumbs" come from.

I hear you Jerry- I bought a Paragon 10-sided fusing kiln last year and even custom ordered a 12-key controller. When it arrived, I followed the "break-in" instructions to the letter, only to find out that the side elements were not working. I'm an engineer, but was afraid to troubleshoot ...

Since it is a channel, there are no pins holding it in, that I can tell. I found this interesting, so I decided to look at mine. I have both a Paragon and a Skutt kiln and both of them have all the elements pinned in- even the ones in the channels. Hmmmm... I wonder if this could be the reason for ...

Wow, Barbara! That's really hanging out of there... As Ron suggested, you really have nothing to loose at this point by trying to heat it and get it back in place. One word of caution- Be very careful about "torquing" the channel lip on the firebrick. That stuff is really soft and porous. ...

Kiln Shelf Repair and "ITC"

I have a kiln shelf I got from a ceramics user and there were little spatters of glaze all over it which she did not clean off between firings. As a result, the glaze ate through the shelf primer and started to eat into the shelf. I very carefully dug (or Dremeled) the glaze out, which of course lef...
