[You mean they don't call it eMpTy for nothing!]

Not for nothing. It's Big, it's Dry, it's very M.T.: 2-1/2 times the size of New England, with fewer people than New Hampshire (from whence I emigrated 13 years ago).

I'm continually flabbergasted and humbled by the generosity of all of you on this list.

Thanx for all your advice. I'm afraid I'll have to motor on over to Portland to experience a "big city." Ain't got none such-a thang in this y'ar state.

Help on making a ceramic seamless kiln shelf

I have an Evenheat oval kiln (2541-13) with a 3-piece shelf and have been wondering if I could make a large seamless shelf using clay. I have tons of low-fire clay but I don't know if that would hold up to repeated firings. As we have a world-class ceramic facility in town (the Archie Bray) I can ac...

Buy some hula hoops. Wedge them between the canopy top and the metal scissor which connects the corners, with the majority of the hoop above the metal. They'll keep the top from acting like a collector and, if it isn't raining, provide you with something to do during those lulls in traffic. Pam ~~~~...

Most likely a five-minute epoxy.

>If you will no longer use the e-6000, what will you use in it's place. just curious because I have been using the e6000 to glue my mirrors to fused glass.

I recently purchased one on ebay. It arrived with no cutting wheel in the cutter head. I emailed the seller several times but got no reply until I threatened to contact ebay and paypay and to leave bad feedback. Then I had to send digital photos of the bad head. Another 10 days (from CA to MT!-- the...

Very timely. I had a picture frame which was glued to a lucite stand develop a crack in both the lucite and the glass. E-6000. I've had this happen before with both mirrors and picture frames and attributed it to being knocked around although I wrap everything in bubble wrap whenever I move it. To s...

Thank you thank you thank for the suggestions. Now, why doesn't Evenheat suggest this solution? Or the distributor from whom I bought the kiln? What's the point to having a 3-piece shelf if one wants to make one big thing? Or, as was my intention, to make four 14" plates? Grrr.

How do I make a 1-piece shelf from a 3-pc. shelf?

I have a new Evenheat 2542 kiln with a three-piece shelf and would like to be able to make something larger than what each individual piece can accommodate. What is the best way to span the gap between pieces? A single sheet of fiberboard?

I didn't completely hide my walls, but I reduced them to background status. I picked up several yards of faux silk material (polyester; it feels like silk but doesn't wrinkle) in purple, turquoise blue and deep royal blue (wanted a green but they didn't have it). I cut 8' long pieces, hemmed the bot...

Your Town, WA or OR

Wanderlust is biting hard again. I've been in MT for 13 years and my feet are getting itchy. I'm thinking about relocating to NW OR or SW WA; ideally, I'd like to find a small, rural town where I can grow things (i.e., more than the 12" of precip. I get here, but 65" would probably make me...

Re: Circle-cutting miracle?

there's nothing in physics about this. once the crack occurs, there's no surface tension left. it has to do with the fact that if the cut is completely vertical, there's no bevel on an edge to trap the circle in the square, so it can fall right out. the hard part is getting a vertical cut. Huh? no ...

I shrug when they ask about my "smashed" bottles and imply that the contents were so really, really, really good that I had to get the very last drop out. Kinda the reverse of the joke about the blond who had hail damage to her car. She took it in to a body shop and the guy decided to have...

I live in Montana, not the hotspot for glass that some parts of the country are. So, I sell at street fairs around the state where I can command fair prices and am going to try my first out-of-state show in August (if I get juried in). I tried a wholesale show in Seattle in January. I learned a few ...
