Bert,
You use a mac? (I do). But when I tried for the third time, I finally got the link....so maybe it is a mac thing.

Kirstie's class

I want to second that. The 'Thoughtful Work' thread really inspired me and helped me to start thinking in terms of where I wanted to go with my work. I was thrilled to get my catalog from Pittsburgh Glass Center and when I saw that Kirstie was teaching a class I just had to sign up. I was even more ...

Ferro paint

Bert, Of the 3 'orange' colors I have; listed darkest to lightest Poppy-darkest coloration (red/orange) Manderine -medium coloration- orange Orange- lightest coloration - orange or should I reverse the last two? I guess it isn't that important because I still have lots of tests to run and will run t...

Ferro paints/color

I did the worst thing. I test fired some Ferro paints on float and forgot/didn't write down which tiles were which color  I thought it would be fairly simple to tell which colors they were. Boy, was I wrong! I made about a dozen 1" x 2" tiles of each of the following colors: Red Popp...

Does 'luck' really have anything to do with it? I agree that there must have been several hundred applicants. This class was advertised as 'non-juried' and acceptance was supposed to be by (random?) lottery. I may be a skeptic, but it would be interesting to see the student list for his class. I'm n...

Hi Patty, Please don't think I am trying to start an argument or anything. Far from it. I just want to show a different perspective. Before I knew that you were talking about fusing ashes in your pieces, I looked at your bowls section..... I could have very well asked the same 'copying' question of ...

Please, never apologize for rambling! We appreciate being able to get into your head for a moment..... what wonderful work. Being able to express in words just how you compose and what makes you do the art you do is why this weeks' threads have been so interesting!

Thanks!

New work

Hi Amy, I have been reading Jackie's thread with intrest, too. I like that you are asking a direct question. (How do you compose?) My short answer is I don't. But I am on a journey and from the sound of things, it looks like I am going at this all backasswards. I am really turned on by textur...

I just accosted the mailman... I have spent the last hour going over the photos.... some of you guys have pretty big tools! I spent a good 45 minutes making up funny/lewd little comments for each picture but someone interrupted me and I lost my 'reply screen' and lost all those witty comment...

yes. many times. no problems.
Like Rosanna suggested, just a light blast to rough up the surface so the kiln wash will stick.

go for it.

I wonder what this will do to elevate the 'percieved value' of fused glass.

Steve, Mark, Bob and Kelly - thank you so much for your replies. How long before I stop feeling so nervous about this? Paragon 7 glass kiln to be installed tomorrow, fire up is set for Thursday. Yikes! Kelly - I just about died laughing at your post! Do you all run your kilns when you are not home?...

Richard,

I think the main thing you are trying to avoid is devit. Tin side devits much easier than the air side. So, rule of thumb is 'tin side down' , espicially on the top piece of glass-IMO.

Hope this helps.

Re: Cutting Spectrum Baroque - total frustration

I'm trying to cut spectrum steel blue baroque into long pieces for a project. Problem is, my score seems fine, but my cut tends to just curve off along with the steel gray swirls in the glass. I've made sure to keep my cutter straight, I'm using the morton system, applying even, but gentle pressue....

For what it's worth, (I tend to do a lot of unconventional things), here is my input: I have tried quite a few times to use small amounts of BE powders on float with mixed results. I have a piece that has been sitting here for over a year and is just now starting to show signs of incompatibility (ti...

Luiza, Very nice 'flow' to these pieces. (I am assuming you are still working with float).... I really like the Cage. I think you should explore this piece more. Perhaps do a series, I have learned so much lately by making myself work in series. There is no telling where it will lead you! What are y...

Liam, there is a post started by Yodah on float sink annealing. In one of the responses, Nelson has posted photos of his sinks with some nice fittings. Perhaps he can tell you where he got them. Thought this would be a good time to post a few insights/concerns/considerations for those wanting to mak...
