Yes, you can get that look with a grinder, but it really works better with a disc grinder or saw. Take it up to fire polishing temperature in your kiln -- somewhere around 1360. Make note for future reference of when the edges start getting shiny, then bring the temp down quickly and anneal. Good lu...

Hi, Barbara-- I saw just this past weekend some small, clear glass bowls in Bed, Bath, and Beyond. I think they might be what you're looking for-- they were app. 2" high by 1 1/2" across. They were in the kitchen section. You might check their web site as well. I believe they were called &...

Hi, Mira-- I'm not sure what size pieces you're thinking of using, but remember that glass (fused or not) and tile can get very slick, particularly when wet. Keeping the pieces on the small side and using grout can help keep the surface of the piece be a little more "rough" and not quite s...

Hi, Charlotte! 1410 for a fire polish is pretty high (in my kiln, a Paragon 24", 1420 for 20 minutes is fusing temp). I fire polish at around 1360, depending on the piece. The creasing might also have something to do with the irid; as a surface coating it likes to stay on top and will try to mi...

Armour Etch cream is all I've ever used, as well. I've only used it to etch off dichroic, though, and have not had reason to try another kind since it's worked well. It's usually a white to cream color.

I got mine through Brad 'way back when, when Graham used to post on this Board (about 3 years ago). If Brad can't get it for you he might be able to tell you where it's available. Also, try Whitehouse Books, one of the Board sponsors.

It's a great reference book!

Try doing some test pieces even if you don't have a lot of time. If you're planning to use dichro on black, try firing a small piece uncapped and a small piece of the same color with a clear cap (make the "cap" larger than the dichro to prevent the coating from rising to the surface). That...

I like the new format, as well as the different forums you've established-- but I miss being able to see right away who has posted to which threads.
