Re: Beware of Morgan Depot

Thanks for your suggestion that I post photos, Morganica, but my amateur photos would probably not show any more than Morgan's professional photos. And Marty, even though the stands look quite similar in their respective photos, they are different weights, and have different shapes. If you don't car...

Beware of Morgan Depot

I recently ordered acrylic plate stands from Morgan Depot and from Easels by Amron to compare them. since I am making a lot of large shallow bowls now. While Morgan Depot's were slightly cheaper, they made up for it by charging $15 for shipping, versus the $9.72 that Easels by Amron charged. When th...

Re: Adding cremains to already fused piece?

Ceramic, yes. Shop in a kitchen store for a mortar and pestle used for grinding up spices.

Re: The importance of 750 degrees

Thanks. I expect to do a number of tests to find what works for this new kiln and larger work. Sure appreciate your help in determining a starting point.

The importance of 750 degrees

Hello, I have been fusing 7.5" shallow bowls. My firing schedule has been that, once the kiln reaches fusing temperature, it shuts down and cools by itself. Have gotten a larger kiln for fusing 16" shallow bowls, and have been reading some of these posts for advice on how to begin experime...

Re: Advice on a kiln for fusing 17" bowl?

Thanks Lori. In your experience does your kiln heat evenly? I'm fixated on this question because since 2001 I have used a jewelry burnout kiln that has elements in three walls. The first thing I had to do with this kiln was map the hot and "cool" spots, and now I have to allow for that whe...

Re: Advice on a kiln for fusing 17" bowl?

Thank you, Alexis, Looked up your kiln and its replacement GL-24AD certainly is a beauty. But $2,800 is a bit high for me! I don't expect the more modestly priced kilns to last as long as "production" kilns. I do not need a workhorse; I expect to fire this every 14 days or so--I have a sma...

Re: Advice on a kiln for fusing 17" bowl?

Is the cost of running a larger kiln a factor, or just the difference in purchase cost?

Re: Adding cremains to already fused piece?

If you grind the cremains into a finer powder, there is less air trapped. A mortar and pestle works. I put a pinch on the back of the pendant, then add some clear glass over the pinch. Leave least a 3/8" margin around the pinch so that it makes a good seal. Not very pretty, but people know it's...

Advice on a kiln for fusing 17" bowl?

Hello, It's been a while. To re-introduce myself--www.FrozenMusic.net Wondering if anyone has advice about type and size of a new kiln, and perhaps even recommendations for manufacturers. I want to work larger, 17" diameter slumped shallow bowls. I would probably fire one at a time, so am not l...
