Re: belts

I had a whole box of 5 104 inch CRL belts, every one of them broke, I order from HIS glassworks now and no trouble.

Re: Denver Kilns?

I have one, it's been good for last 10 years, only thing I replaced was a thermocouple last year. I use it almost every day.

Re: Fiber Kiln/Shelf

I have a Denver fiber kiln and 3 brick kilns. Firing in the fiber kiln is similar, the lid is fiberboard, the sides are the usual fluffy fiber wool. Call Jen Ken, they will advise you. Sorry you had runaway kiln.

Re: how to use this glass cutting tool?

Thanks Kevin! I didn't know about guiding with your finger. Even from this old post. Guess I haven't been studying the Warm Glass board like I used to.

Re: Denver Machinery thermocouple error

That's the one! OK, I'll try them- The response from Red LIon was really fast, here it is: "The OPEN error can mean a open thermocouple sensor or a hardware failure of the control given it's age. Thermocouples types are based on lead wire color code. TYPE J for example is RED and White leads. T...

Re: Sandblast grit

I got some on Amazon, even mailed Prime to Hawaii. Automotive shops have sandblasters, too, and will blast a piece for you if you are just getting rid of a scummy back or something coarse like that

Denver Machinery thermocouple error

I have error message "OPEN" on my 17 year old KL50DD Denver kiln. The manual on the Red Lion controller says it is the probe, which I assume is the thermocouple. Since Denver Machinery is not in business, I wonder how to find out how to get another thermocouple and how to install it. It is...

Re: Fiber Kiln/Shelf

I never had any luck with a hardened fiber shelf. The first firing was fine, the next one stuck like crazy and tore a pit out of the shelf making it worse than useless because the glass was ruined as well. If you have a fiber shelf, I would always use thin fire. But I agree with Kevin, a regular she...

Re: zyp coating

I tried brushable ZYP boron nitride on fiber molds. It releases one time, firing up to fuse temperature the next time results in the coating sticking to the glass as a hazy film. Zyp has to be removed and replenished with a fresh coat which is pretty impossible on fiber.

Where is the iridescent 96?

Oceanside Glass doesn't appear to be manufacturing any iridized glass. Anyone have insight on that?

Re: Wetbelt sander belts breaking

I had that happen with a batch of belts also, from CRL. They work for 15 minutes and then let go. They were a few years old when I got around to needing them. It was only one size that broke. I bought new different ones from HIS.

Re: Super Spray A Reaction, Shadows, Polishing

I have taken pieces to be sandblasted to an automotive machine shop. They use big blasters to clean parts and may be happy to sandblast your piece inexpensively. They don't do delicate decals, but an overall blast is not out of the question.

HI Terry, Do you have a picture of the cement mixer mill? I want to try this, I use a lot of frit about the size of a dime. Where did you get the stainless balls? What size are they?

Yes, it is likely. Better to make a test strip with materials you intend to use. Devit spray can be blotchy or change the color of the dichroic.

Can it make chips the size of a dime also? I'm currently crushing a 24x48 inch sheet with a pestle made of pipe in a stainless steel basin of water. I can do 1/8 sheet at a time. I made a finer frit crusher from directions here on the board with a jewelry press with an added an electric motor. It su...

Re: Bowl Slumping Questions

that bowl shape is not particularly elegant finished as the bowl will slump far down into it and be mostly flat with a small upturned edge and possibly an uneven bottom. As it was mentioned, it isn't really made for fusing and presents a lot of problems with shifting off center, which is a real hear...

The duct tape works amazingly well. no wandering belts, runs pretty quiet, too. Thanks again Kevin, Marty , your admonishment well taken. I have been mostly religious to take off the tension, thanks for way earlier advice from you guys.

Re: Bee Wet Belt Sander refurbishing

I put on the duct tape already, works great! New belt, too, and I brushed off the upper assembly, I'll rinse it off real good after this session and take a look with the flashlight. The machine is not especially loud so I'm hoping the bearings are in good shape still. Funny about the belts, some are...
