At times I sprinkle kilnwash on the shelf for texture. After firing to approx. 1480 degrees I typically just sweep the loose wash/powder into the trash. Could that powder be reused or has all its value been fired out?

I did go shopping and when I got home I put on gloves and glasses and pulled that base right off!! Thanks so much for the input. You know I never thought about the lead vapor if they are soldered on. I will check for the dimples before I buy the colander. I may have figured out what happened.....the white coating on the cermaguard flaked off a few days after fusing so maybe that is why I got the cloudy look. Just thinking out loud!

I found a great S/S colander but it has a base on it that would need to come off. Any ideas? Looks like it is tack welded on in maybe in 4 spots. I agree with Mike on this. Try firing Wasser at a lower temp and you'll probably like the results much better. I use Wasser a lot and haven't had any problems.
