Re: What Happened, and Can I Fix It?

Another possibility is that I have been combining Bullseye and Wissmach glass - both COE 90. Is it possible that the Wissmach glass is the problem? It's certainly much cheaper, but maybe you get what you pay for! / I have used Wissmach without issues and appreciate the price difference tremendously...

Re: What Happened, and Can I Fix It?

The Bullseye 'thick slab' anneal chart http://www.bullseyeglass.com/methods-ideas/annealing-thick-slabs.html lists 100/55F as the anneal temps for .5-inch glass; this is probably for a typical, first-firing layup of glass and not glass that has experienced multiple and high temperature firings with ...

Re: tack fusing 4 layers 3mm without dams to keep the volume

Hi Is it possible to tack fuse 4 or 5 layers 4x4" of 1/8" BE at a low temperature so the block holds together as a blank for a drop ring, but does not spread? I work mostly with 2 layers, have no experience if this would be possible at all. I imagine this would save a lot of time in havin...

I too wish I could find local enthusiasts more easily than just watchin...

There are... the Warm Glass book available here .... #2 Since you recognize the problem as being annealing, then your schedule is wrong for your kiln and combination of glass and mold and kiln shelf!!!!!. Definitely encourage reading Brad's Contemporary Fused Glass http://warmglass.org/books and do...

I am totally offended by those coming on this board to make this a political issue; this is an affront to the hospitality of the board owners and those of us who enjoy the board as a friendly learning medium. We do do not need politics here. My decisions to buy are based on many factors including bu...

Re: Delphi Mold Disaster- Suggestions please :)

I'm not entirely clear what you were trying to do? What was the end result supposed to be? holes like this are either a volume issue or an air escape issue. .....................So yeah - make sure the mold holes are clear, make sure the mold is elevated, pre fuse a solid blank - and see if that do...

Re: pieced dish splits during slumping fire

as there is no place near me to take classes. Classes are not a panacea; they are typically fun and some good information is available. Growing to understand the interplay of design, glass and firing processes is essential. Several books present keys to successful glass fusing well. Brad's 'Contemp...

The book provides the answers and the understanding of the behavior of glass you are asking someone on this board to explain quickly. Once you appreciate the knowledge in that book, you will understand why I have recommended it to you. I paid over 3 times the price I found it for sale at for you. I...

Re: grinding and other abrasions effect between 2 fused surfaces

I understand that grinding edges and surfaces gives scummy surface fusing results--SB Is this assumption true? If not, you may be going after the wrong answer and Cynthia's input is probably what you need. The issue of 'scummy' surface is probably related to residue from grinding or not grinding ad...

Re: Pre-firing Stringers

Liquid Stringer Medium advertisement makes this claim, 'Its primary benefit is that it will withstand elevated temperatures thus holding the glass particles in place until they are sticky enough to bond together on their own.' This seems to indicate that you can use this product to tack the stringer...

Re: "Dumbing down" of glass art?

they design and get it made by a specialist who doesn't even get credit This is not a new concept. The one example that comes to mind immediately is the “Throne of St. Peter” at the Vatican. Bernini conceived the design but I've read that as many as 30 'specaialists' created the amazing display. An...

Warner Glasshttp://warnerstainedglass.com/default.aspx was my favorite online stained glass space for some time. Just looked for my last post.....it was in 2006. There were some great contributors at that time but I'm not seeing many names I recognize after all this time.

I don't understand the question :?: Brad Walker writes in his book about this ! Making your own "shards". Possible via a drop (and a square is to prefer) and making a square (RVS) with nichrome wire on it. Sorry, my knowledge of the English language is too poor to explain it on the right ...
