Re: Light bulbs for photo shoot

You might find this article I put together on my website that covers almost all aspects of photgraphing glass. There is a discussion on bulbs.

Re: Devit Problem with BE

I agree with Marty, try eliminating the Thinfire. Also, eliminate the hold at 1250. Try a lower top temp. This should work just fine with Bullseye glass.

Artwork Inventory Software

I just came across a new product - and have spent about a month using it called Artwork Archive.

Here is a review I wrote about it. I think it is a great way to organize your artwork!

Re: SS mesh melt: black & white specks

Lucie- The fact that the mesh has been fired before is why you are getting black specks. The first time you use the mesh, it doesn't spall until it cools. By that time, the glass had hardened enough that any black specks just land on the top if the melt and can be brushed away. But, since it has bee...

Re: SS mesh melt: black & white specks

Was this a new sheet of mesh, or mesh that you had used before and cleaned off?

Re: What am I doing Wrong?

I am a bit confused at how many times you are firing these. But, if on an initial firing they are not properly annealed, they may crack from the stress of reheating the next time, even with a reasonable initial ramp. I'd work on your annealing schedule - use the Bullseye recommended schedule for 1/2...

Re: Follow in devit question! Help with program please

I would go slow from 1150-1250 (like 60 dph), then very fast to full fuse (like 800 dph), and keep your top temp as low as you can (like 1470).

Here are some other thoughts on preventing devit:

Using Bullseye iridized glass with the irid side down, on a nice, smooth, kilnwashed shelf gives a nice bottom.

Soap Dish Mold

I made a nice soap dish mold by using one of those oversized, stainless steel spoon rests. Made some holes, sandblasted and applied kiln wash. Just slumped in the oval part and ignored the handle.

Anyone have any ideas? Here is a link to some images of the piece: http://dell.shutterfly.com/osi.jsp?i=67b0de21b376ae3de43d Jackie, I really like it and think you should keep experimenting with the concept. But, I agree with Marty. Consider this one a learning experience and make another with the ...

Bullseye sample sets- Striking Colors

I have one of Bullseye's Kilnforming Sample sets, that I've had for about 8 years now, and have added updates a couple of times. I just ordered the 2003 update so I could see exactly what some of the new, cool, colors look like. To my disappointment, all the striking colors came "unstruck"...

Els has a good idea. You might be able to cut ceramaguard or some similar product to do this.

I agree with Dani. I've found both of those sponsors to be very responsive. I'm sorry your experience was otherwise, but I'd give them another chance.

Re: Pot melt

Steve, I'd like to see your kiln! Are you really able to make 1600 in less than an hour? Hate to have your electric bill. But that's a good answer. I know that my kiln doesn't go much faster than 900 an hour but I don't like going that fast. You know my process, and within that process I usually go...

It only matters that if you go too fast it is theoretically possible that your pot or your shelf could crack. I usually use 2000dph.

Jackie,

I have challenged Cliff Swanson to pair with me to swap each other's styles, since I think our styles are about as far apart as one can get.

He has agreed.

I told him I'd leave it to Jackie to give us our "assignments".

So, Oh-Great-Instigator? Tell us what we have to do.
