Re: web hosting versus other options?

I have read all the various comments and links about website development and web hosts, but what I have not seen [or at least not yet found] is any discussion of the pluses/minuses of having one's own website versus using a sevice like GlassArtist.org - which I noted that several members of the BB ...

I'm gonna toss my nickel into the fray. Lately in emails and conversation the phrase 'business plan' keeps popping up. I never thought I had one yet when a group of email friends sat down over morning coffee and talked I realized that yep I did write one down using the play sheets at the end of each...

I've got a revolution also, very expensive but it works great. Yes it can cut a circle and compound curves (easily cuts 1/8" wide pattern bar slices) and for more intricuit cuts there is a blade available with diamond on both sides (blades are round and hollow, no center). Our only downs...

Sara, I checked out the Revolutionary Tile Saw on Gemini's website but it doesn't say this particular saw cuts omni-directional. What's your experience? Also, there's no price on the website. Judy Hi Judy. The Revolution didn't have a releasing blade available when we purchased it last year, maybe ...

However, if you're cutting pattern bars or any other thick glass, Taurus does not recommend that sort of cutting on this particular model saw. Taurus has come out with a new saw which they claim can cut pattern bars. I don't know. Judy Judy are you talking about the Revolution Tile Saw from Gemini?...

if I were to have listened to the critiques of my glass I would have stopped melting years ago. Instead it's been a magic carpet ride, critics be damned. Tee hee, of course I still can't get into many shows  and have had to make do. Seriously, from the heart is what matters and each of us w...

Sara - I will try to hold at 1420F for 20mins rather than 1450 for 10mins and see what happens. I use a Skutt GM10F kiln with controller. As for placing the etched image more centrally, i tried that with better results but I do want to have designs which start from the edge - besides, this has beco...

Re: Dichro jewelry issue I can't seem to resolve - see pics

First I etched the blue dichro with very straight lines that looked great. This was sandwiched between a layer of black and clear (1.6mm). After firing, the lines have visibly bent which shows that the dichro 'pulls'. It is very frustrating because with other detailed etchings, the distortion ruins...

definitely helps me understand where I'm going wrong. I do generally use thins in the three layers which explains the problem. So are you saying that to get the least distortion, either use two regular thickness layers or three regular layers - not thick and thin? au contraire, Michrodichro. quit w...

I fire @ 1200F to 1250F and then @700F to 1450- I hold for 10 mins and then switch off. In total, my total firing time (excluding cooling) is just over 2 hours. How long is your total firing time? why so hot? why so fast? so many wanna slam dunk and get those pieces out, relax, take your time. many...

I charge them just the UPS charges; the rest- boxes, chips, tape, time- go into cost-of-goods along with glass, overhead, time, etc. Ernest, I agree with Marty and always include handling and shipping supplies within the cost of my work. I've been told by my customers that they do not like the perc...

Re: help at shows

I am getting ready for spring shows and trying to figure out how to clone myself. I work a full-time job and find it hard to do a 2-day weekend then jump back into work on Monday. So I am thinking of hiring someone to relieve me some during the weekend. What wisdom do you all have about this that y...

1. Incorporate and elect to . . .

2. Have your fiscal year end March 31.

3. Do two BIG shows in February to sell down inventory and generate cash flow.

Re: dichroic glass

I understand the principal of making dichroic glass in single colors. I don't understand how they manage to get the circles, squares, hexagons, ect. in different colors on the glass Steve it's done with templates. Allan Graef has the 'corner' on some designs. the thicker the template the more the h...

check out this site. Is anyone familiar with this glass? http://www.graef-dichroic.com/ Allen has been around since the beyond the very beginnings. At one time he had all his coatings done by GM Vacuum (now Navitar Vacuum Coating Labs) I doubt he's gotten his own chamber but most likely uses either...

Rodney, the Best Bead Show frowns on people who haven't been 'juried' in sharing a booth. The waiting list is long, but worth it. There are other shows at Tucson that are easier to find space in, although most shows are filled months, if not a year, in advance. Try the Whole Bead or Bead Renassiance...
